Maybe it's a boy thing. My boy also was an enthusiastic spitter. My girl was not . . . very ladylike even as an infant.
(I would suggest a Lab, but they're just too rowdy for little kids. Goldens are gentler.)
Oy, I don't think a dog would reduce our workload at this point! I told the kids we'll get another cat when the babies are all toilet trained.
A Golden is the best babysitter around, they'll keep the kids out of trouble and keep them amused as well.
My son's doctor has one in his office . . . for the kids to hug. Duke is an adorable dog and very gentle with the children. When I bring my Lab to visit him (they are madly in love) we have to turn them out in the back yard behind the office, because she is crazy and does her best to encourage him to be crazy too. But mostly she just runs and jumps in wild circles around him, while he trots sedately like a planet in his orbit.
My oldest two are 15 and 12, but neither likes dogs. And my 4-year-old would probably die of fright.
Golden retrievers are nice, though. We have one up the street who meets us on the sidewalk when we're out, and politely sniffs and wags.
No, God is everywhere, even here on earth, so heaven isn't just about God. If heaven were just about God, then Jesus wouldn't have bothered to talk about "many mansions".
When you're in heaven, you're not going to need the companionship of a pet. Pets do not have souls. They aren't rational. They can't make reasoned choices. They are not made in God's image... And I say this as someone who cherishes his dogs... But heaven? We'll be busy with other things and perfectly happy.
And our purpose in Heaven is....
Do your dogs not make the reasoned choice to poop outside?
Animals make reasoned choices all of the time.
No they don't. Pooping outside is instinct, not reason. Repeat an action enough times (going outside) and they will continue to repeat it. That and the fact that they leave their scent.
Isn't the question about PETS in Heaven. Do we care if scorpions are not admitted.
We want the pets and God loves us so much surely he will give us everything we want which is good.
My 18 year old loves the dog (and of course the dog worships her) but my 15 year old prefers cats.
He's going to wind up with some dog duties, though, now that the 18 year old is off at college . . . as my husband tells him, it's just the price you pay for three squares and a warm place to sleep . . .
Why on earth would you ask me a question like that? Are you trying to say that loving animals and wishing to spend eternity with them is ungodly? Is there something wrong with you?
To be perfectly honest with you, I don't know, nor do I care. Until I stand before the throne of God and He tells me, it's all conjecture anyway. I live my life according to rules as set out by His prophets and His Son and I try to do what will please Him. If there is a reward for that, fine, if not, that's fine as well because I'm not doing it for reward, I am doing it to please God.
Anyway, when you said I am doing it to please God I think you answered my question. We will spend eternity worshiping and serving God, which is of course, pleasing to Him.
My husband has talked about getting a dog on occasion, but when I asked whether he could guarantee that I would never have to do any dog care activities (I'm not sufficiently fond of dogs for that!), he didn't want to commit.
Maybe in our retirement years, he can nurture a dog.
Oh, dear. The children are hitting one another with sticks!
Have a nice day, and dont' overstress yourself attempting to play God.
I did not "judge" your faith. I asked you a simple question. I thought that FR was a place to discuss issues.
Sorry that I offended you.
Some dogs have to be taught to poop outside.
They then reason that if they poop outside they avoid a swat with a rolled up newspaper.
No point in arguing as we both think that we are right and the world will not change if our disagreement is not resolved.
If I make it to heaven my dogs will be there. Getting there is the real issue.
You're right. I was a little heavy-handed on this. I certainly hope my dogs will go to heaven, too. But my understanding tells me they won't. In the end, it's not material to our salvation whether they do or not.
