MONTREAL - The openly gay Episcopal Bishop Gene Robinson created quite a buzz at of Outgames' first International Conference on LGBT Human Rights as he called for all those who have left their houses of worship to go back and reclaim what is rightfully theirs.
"The Radical Right has taken our sacred texts hostage," Robinson told the morning plenary crowd. "The story of God's relationship with humankind includes all of us. LGBT people should be involved in their communities of faith and be a witness."
Robinson spoke at the July 27 morning plenary and was joined by Irshad Manji, author of "The Trouble with Islam Today," Kim Gandy, president of the National Organization for Women and Mark Tewksbury, co-president of Outgames and an Olympic gold medal swimmer.
Robinson said that Canada's expansion of LGBT rights including marriage is a beacon of hope for the United States. "Canada has shown us a better way," he said.
No you idiot, we just don't want you and your ilk to change it to fit your immoral and sinful agenda.
What "sacred texts" is this idiot talking about - the Gospel According to Judas, maybe?
perverts, not converts.
These faggots and dykes don't realize that no common sense normal people want to be a "witness" to their deviance.....
Yes, but according to those texts, some of us aren't on God's good side.
To these birds, the "radical right"/"fundamentalists" include mainstream orthodox catholic Christians, who hold to the historic and apostolic Christian faith. In fact, we are the MAJORITY of those they consider "radical right"/"fundamentalists"!!!!
The real problem is that the "radical-liberals" who have hijacked the "mainline" (lameline?) churches such as ECUSA (now "TEC") and ELCA have abandoned the apostolic Christian faith!!!! Thus, to them mainstream orthodox catholic Christians are "far-right". But that is because they have moved way, way far to the left, and are taking their churches way, way south!!!!
... * (exasperated gasp)

Maybe, being the good liberal leftists they are, they'll agree to appease us or even surrender to us. Me, I'd settle for them just retreating to a neigboring set of scriptures. Say, the Koran?
what are some "outgames" anyway? Bareback riding?
I don't want to even think about that question in this context...
VGR is NOT an original thinker. This idea about the hijacking of Christianity and of the Bible has been bantered around by the likes of Spong for years. Thing is, these people cannot seem to decide if they think it has been 'hijacked,' or if they would really prefer to chuck the greater majority of it entirely (except perhaps some of the blander stuff about "love"), and then add bunch of stuff to it that confirms them in their sin. VGR has also given speeches and sermons intimating that Our Lord was gay. If things keep on going as they are, we can look for something along those lines to eventually make it's way into the (American version of) Book of Common Prayer also.
"The Radical Right has taken our sacred texts hostage,"
Of course he doesn't mention which texts have been taken...because no Biblical text supports his position.
LGBT "human rights"??? Those include the "right" to get married and adopt children. It was NEVER a "right" to get married anywhere. One has to have a LICENSE to get married everywhere in this country.
With a "license" that means that now ALL can get the license.
You KNOW what will be next in Canada, now that homosexuals can be married.
Next:
*Muslim and old-fashioned Mormon marriages = 1 man plus 1-4 women, or more, a la old-fashioned Mormons
*Then, women, especially those as dysfunctional as men who want four or more wives, will want the "right" to marry more than 1 man, like it already exists in the piss-poor 3rd world sewers of Tibet and India where ONLY the very, very poorest men pair up with other family men and marry one woman. Sadly, there are women here, stupids, who think that's a "good" thing.
Pandora's box is irrevocably open.
*Canada will copy India where there are children marriages.
*Maybe they will allow Farsee marriages, that is, anything but mother-son. Yes, that does indeed include incestuous marriages.
Why not? They have opened the door to HOMOSEXUAL marriages. Now, in Canada, REALLY, "anything goes" and Canada cannot now exclude other religious concoctions.
STUPID Canada. Stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid.
The only good thing is that, maybe, just maybe, we Americans will "lose" all our "losers," that is, the LGBT fools who want same-sex marriage and they will ALL go live in Canada. Canada got our draft-dodgers. It was a good thing for us to be rid of those weak, cowardly traitors. Maybe we'll lose other losers. Not ALL bad.
Anything to bring the Church down and to move us close to occupying the Tower of Babel; thereby bringing down America as we know it.
For a guy who didn't want to be the "gay bishop" and just wanted to serve the Diocese of New Hampshire, he sure gives a lot of speeches.
I fear that when I come again my God may humble me before you, and I may have to mourn over many of those who sinned before and have not repented of the impurity, immorality, and licentiousness which they have practiced.Do you think St. Paul may be paying a visit to GC2009?
I hear you and I am not handing over the Sacred Scriptures to their self-interested, self-absorbed hands. They're just going to have to deal with the Scriptures the way they stand, like it or not.
Thing is, I really think what they want is the chance to 'edit' the Scriptures, just as Marcion did, no more than 100 years after Christ. It didn't take long for the revisionists to get going then and it looks like they've never stopped.
Their version of hell will not prevail against the Church, nor be able to sully the eternal Word of God.
