Womenpriests Being Reported To Vatican By Pittsburgh Diocese
KDKA ^ | August 9, 2006

PITTSBURGH The Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh plans to send a report to the Vatican about a ceremony in which a dozen women claimed to be ordained as priests and deacons last month.

The diocese does not recognize the ordinations and says the women have excommunicated themselves from the church by participating in the ceremony on July 31.

Monsignor Lawrence DiNardo, a canon law expert with the diocese, told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that someone can excommunicate themselves by their actions, but that the Vatican can then formally decree that an excommunication has occurred.

The report will include the names of the 12 women ordained, as well as the name of three female bishops who belong to a group known as Roman Catholic Womenpriests.

Is the Catholic Church opposed to abortion? If they are, then why are hundreds of Catholic politicians not excommunicated? Ted Kennedy for example.

The Church started the excommunication process on them the day that the sinful faux "ordination" took place.
You posted some great photos of the event, NYer.

The women and the bishop who "ordained" them are all being excommunicated via the

Latæ and Ferendæ Sententiæ
Excommunication, especially a jure, is either latæ or ferendæ sententiæ. The first is incurred as soon as the offence is committed and by reason of the offence itself (eo ipso) without intervention of any ecclesiastical judge; it is recognized in the terms used by the legislator, for instance: "the culprit will be excommunicated at once, by the fact itself [statim, ipso facto]".
The second is indeed foreseen by the law as a penalty, but is inflicted on the culprit only by a judicial sentence; in other words, the delinquent is rather threatened than visited with the penalty, and incurs it only when the judge has summoned him before his tribunal, declared him guilty, and punished him according to the terms of the law. It is recognized when the law contains these or similar words: "under pain of excommunication"; "the culprit will be excommunicated".

The process must be initiated by the local bishop, who may be, ahem, lacking in courage.

Of course, nominal Catholics like Kennedy have already excommunicated themselves de facto, but a public excommunication is necessary both for their own welfare (to alert them to the danger to their immortal soul), the welfare of the lay faithful, who are scandalized, and the welfare of non-Catholics, for whom pro-abortion "Catholics" set a terrible example.

Who said they weren't? You don't need a fancy certificate to be excommunicated.

So you are saying that Ted Kennedy has been excommunicated?

OH! Now I understand, it's being kept a secret!

Yes that's a good way to promote sound moral principles.

Try reading it again. I never said it was a secret.

What I said was I have no doubt in my mind that Kennedy and other abortion-enablers have been excommunicated by their own actions.

They should be publicly tried and sentenced, but that doesn't change the fact of what they have brought upon themselves.

The Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh plans to send a report to the Vatican ...

... where the recipient will beat his head against a wall (hope there are no antique frescoes nearby) and cry, "Why me, Lord?!?"

But it's a secret to the public. Who but Ted himself knows this, and by his example of getting away with it encourages others to commit the same sin without any risk.

It makes me question really how serious the Catholic Church in their verbal condemnation of abortion when they are unwilling publically to do more than talk.

But it's a secret to the public.

What are you talking about? Of course any latæ sententiæ excommunication is "secret."

Who but Ted himself knows this, and by his example of getting away with it encourages others to commit the same sin without any risk.

Who said Ted knows? I bet he's oblivious.

I already agreed that he and those like him should be publicly tried and sentenced. I can't agree any more than I already do. I am making the point that excommunication is not something that happens because a Church tribunal makes a judgment. It happens automatically by certain behaviors, whether the Church formally recognizes it or not.

OK, so you are saying that Ted can continue to take communion, that everyone can see him doing so, but the joke is on Ted?

Excellent news! Perhaps more bishops and archbishops will follow suit.

It's already happening.

One here in Oregon doesn't attend the Catholic Church anymore.
