Regardless of the messenger, Billy Graham thinks you can get to heaven by being a good Muslim or a good Buddhist. Do you agree with that? The Apostle Paul said that even he should be cursed if he began preaching a different gospel. Surely Billy Graham is not better than Paul.
Just sayin' that without a formal declaration of an historic creed or statement of "What We Believe" (something the site sorely lacks), it was difficult to ascertain the actual theology this author held Billy Graham accountable to.
Full Court was most helfpul in locating a page on the website that provides an insight into David Cloud's (Independent Baptist?) beliefs, although it doesn't read like a statement of faith. I don't know if I would conclude that Cloud is "big on throwing rocks while building with none". I would conclude that he's lousy with articulating his own faith via the Internet, though.
Quix, if one day you yourself became deceived and started sharing a distorted gospel with people, wouldn't you want to be condemned. I would! Let my reputation fall, but may the Word of God and the truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ reign supreme. Hopefully in the embarrassment, I would repent and correct my ways.
And then, why not by being a "good" unbeliever, same thing. We should all be aware of what Jesus had to say about "being good". It means nothing.
Thank you oh so very much for your encouragements, dear brother in Christ!
Excellent post. Thank you!
So does he believe that his translation is inerrant and authoritative?
The same thing happens to me. Praise God!!! Thank you for your post!
You should take your own advice, given this blatant untruth that you stated about Graham in an earlier post:
He only preaches about things like this to people who are already believers.
You mean that all those people who attended his crusades over the years were already saved? Using your line of reasoning, I may now dismiss you as a false teacher, given that you have made a false claim. Of course, I have the advantage of the full context and accuracy of your post being at hand, rather than depending on the writings of someone else who may have lifted a comment out of context in order to score theological points.
LOLOL! Thanks for the chuckle.
"My reading is different. My understanding of his motives are that he'd rather be invited and able to give Godly counsel to folks in such critical positions than leaving them with only evil counselors to bend their ear."
Bears repeating on this rather nasty thread. Mr. Graham said as much in his biography. He has never to my knowledge chastized a public figure in public, I would imagine however that he has had many discussions in private and as any good minister, he keeps those conversations private.
"Regardless of the messenger, Billy Graham thinks you can get to heaven by being a good Muslim or a good Buddhist."
Do you have something current to prove that with?
What useful purpose has been served with this posting? How many souls will it bring into God's Kingdom? Why denigrate, devalue and demean a devoted "man of God" who has spent his whole life preaching the Gospel? This is a clever warp and twist of things said in most cases many years ago with the very worst possible interpretation placed by the author. BTW, I understand that Howard Dean is hiring at the DNC. The author has a great future in Washington.
We all have our little sins, don't we? They look so much worse on other people than on ourselves.
I suspect that as Bill Clinton's friend he probably privately counseled him in regard to his actions, and I think that what Graham was probably saying is that he was not going to make any public condemnation of Clinton's behavior. If that is the case, the Billy Graham was doing what any good Christian should do. It is not Billy Graham's place to publically condemn the behavior of his personal friend. Plus from what I've read of Billy Graham he considers himself no better than any other sinner in the eyes of God.
I will say from all I've seen over the last 50 years, Billy Graham is the real deal. He may be a theological lightweight, but he was not called to the office of theologian; he is an evangelist. What matters in his ministry is what he says when he walks up the pulpit and every sermon I've heard him preach is pretty much nothing but gospel truth.
When he steps down from the pulpit, it appears that his feet are made of the same clay as yours and mine. The big difference is that everyone can see Billy Graham's feet and the number of people who see Billy Graham's clay feet is a lot bigger than the number of people who have a chance (or would even bother) to look at ours.
Anyway, that is the Spiritual discernment I have on the subject.
Well put brother Marlowe.
"Regardless of the messenger, Billy Graham thinks you can get to heaven by being a good Muslim or a good Buddhist"
Do you believe that all of those whom God has elected to salvation before the foundation of the world will be in heaven?
It has always been my understanding that Bill Clinton was a born again Christian, but I could be mistaken. Maybe someone else knows where I got that notion. I really do not recall. I thought he was Southern Baptist until he was in DC.
