Poles visit symbolic Christ's Graves on Holy Saturday
15.04.2006
On Holy Saturday, the second day of what is often called the Easter Triduum, no masses are celebrated in Roman Catholic Church during the day.
Polands believers come to churches to visit symbolic Christs Graves. They traditionally bring Easter food in small baskets for blessing. This custom dates back to the 8th century. It started to be widely observed in Poland in the 15th century. The basket usually contains eggs, bread, an Easter cake, some meat and above all a figure of a lamb made from sugar or dough, a symbol of Christ.
The Easter Vigil mass is celebrated late on Holy Saturday evening. It focuses on light and water, and consists of four parts: the service of light, the liturgy of the word, baptism and eucharist.

Paper craines in some of those photos?
I believe so.
Actually I can't imagine a Polish Catholic church during the Easter Triduum without a symbolic Tomb of Lord - no matter in Poland or abroad.
Cools pics. One day I think I am going to arrange to spend Holy Week in Poland
