Please keep my father in your prayers this weekend, and into next week. He is going into surgery next week to have one of his kidneys removed. He had surgery on his colon last August to remove a tumor, and during post-surgery diagnostic scanning, they found a "spot" on one of his kidneys that turned out to be another tumor.
His surgery has been scheduled for some weeks now, and they were in not too much of a hurry to remove it, so it's probably not malignant, but as with all surgeries, there are risks, and in my dad's particular case, there is a heightened risk.
The kidney that is being removed is not functional, and hasn't been for many years. He had a kidney transplant in 1989, so his two "native" kidneys aren't needed, but were left in place. Due to his transplant, and the drugs that he takes that supress his immune system, so his body doesn't reject the transplanted kidney, it takes him longer than healthy people to heal, and he is more susceptible to post-surgery infection as a result.
I am also concerned about his mental/emotional health as well. My dad is a man who likes to be active, and worked throughout his life with his hands, so he doesn't like to be stuck in a sedentary state for extended periods of times

My father had surgery last year to remove one of kidney's as well. He too is a very active person. Although we protested, he traveled to China for two weeks just 5-6 weeks after his surgery. He's still doing great now! The hardest part is the first and second week. It's not worth it to overdo it... I'll pray your father will rest. Anyway, my father slept a good deal of the time because of the pain medicine.
Without any regret, I spent the night at the hospital for the first few nights after the surgery until he gained strength again. The new techniques really help shorten the healing time!
