Are you travelling for Christmas to be with relatives and loved ones?
Do you feel uncomfortable that the old church in which you were raised has become apostate or heretical?
Do your relatives or loved ones relatively attend church at all?
Are you going to be in one of the culturally "elite" parts of the country (a.k.a. "blue states")for Christmas?
Do you seek a reverent liturgy?
Do you need a good church for Christmas while travelling?
Free Republic can help us solve this dilemma. Please use this thread to post recommendations and requests for FReeper recommended Christmas services throughout the country!
In our case, we will be in Northern Westchester/Southern Putnam County, NY for Christmas. Does anyone have a suggestion for a good theologically orthodox liturgical service in the area? Anglican, Catholic or Eastern Orthodox would all be fine.
Here's one for you Hardingville Bible Church is a Fundamental, Bible-believing Church located at the crossroads of Route 538 & Route 619 in Gloucester County, New Jersey http://www.hardingville.com/

Ping.
I'm sorry. I meant to give you this yesterday. You can look them up by zip codes. They may not list the Nativity schedule but there should be contact info. Maybe some parish website links.

For Catholics, Communion also implies adherence to all the Church teaches, so...don't make the same mistake I did. You can join the procession and get a blessing or sit it out, it's not that big a deal, lots of people won't be receiving.
And if you're in the Seattle area, come on by St. Bartholomew's, Woodinville.
Thanks to Alia for the ping.

Can you name nearby cities or towns?
Nearby towns include Carmel, Brewster, and Fishkill NY, and Danbury, CT.
Thank you! It looks like a great resource. Do any readers of the thread have any favorites from this list in terms of particularly good preaching, choral music, chant, clergy or congregation?
If you have the name and location of a church that might work for you, then you can google on it. If the church has a website, you can get an idea of what their services are like by looking at pictures, looking at the scheduling, reading the archived bulletins, etc. (For instance, my parish bulletin would show six different choir practices a week, indicating that there's a big music program.)
If the church has a really noteworthy liturgy, you might even find newspaper mentions.
Don't you need to cross your hands in some fashion when you come to the priest if you are just in line for a blessing?
Usually one should cross his arms across his chest, kind of like a corpse (bad image, I know, but that's what it looks most similar to). Bend your elbows and put your left hand on or near your right shoulder and your right hand on or hear your left shoulder. Simply crossing or folding your hands might be confusing because many people put their hands in this posture when they receive the Eucharist on the tongue. If you cross your arms over your chest the priest will know you're up for a blessing, not for receiving communion on your tongue. Try to get in the priest's line at communion time - sometimes the lay men and women who also distribute communion get confused and won't know what to do with someone who's up for a blessing.
Ah! I'm somewhat familiar with that area. Sorry to report there are no identified traditional Anglican churches nearby.

(Call to verify, because they may not have special Midnight Masses listed!)
