Pope Imposes Tighter Controls on Events of Franciscian Monks

...In ''all initiatives with pastoral aspects," the Franciscans ''will have to request and obtain the consent" of Assisi's bishop, who will in turn ''hear the opinion" of the Umbria regional bishops conference and the Italian conference, Benedict's decree declared.

The future papal delegate will ''perpetuate, with his moral authority, the close bonds of communion" between the Vatican and the sacred places in memory of Saint Francis....

Benedict's decree is a benchmark in the evolution of his seven-month-old papacy, many church observers say. So far, his reign has been an exercise in the tightening of practice to match church doctrine as he sees it.

Interesting article. I took out some key points midway. This is not the beginning of the article, but it's an excerpt and link only site.

(quoted)
With a stroke of the pen earlier this month, Pope Benedict XVI put the future of such varied -- some would say freewheeling -- events in question, according to Roman Catholic observers, both those who favor Franciscan activism and those who oppose it.

So, is the dwarf tossing 'on' next Friday, or what? Bought tickets (ticketron wasn't cheap). Hired a sitter. Arrangements have been made…

Friday is a Universal Day of Penance and we Christians are encouraged not to eat or throw meat.

The Food and Drug Administration (See "Meat Defined" Jan 18, 1947, FDA Publication #13879 authors Hitchens, Edgars, Livinovich) has ruled Dwarfs are meat.

Further, the Lawrence Livermore Jet Propulsion Lab has warned of "repetitive motion injuries" for Dwarf-tossers due to "Dwarfs wear baggy pants which increases the wind resistance" and causes stress-related rotator cuff injuries and which thesis was, repeatedly, investigated at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds in July of 1964, October of 1967 and December of 1981.

I saw this earlier in the week and I thought it was very interesting and definitely marks a difference between BXVI and JPII.

I do not think that JPII was in any way unorthodox or heretical, but he seemed to have an enormous tolerance for things that verged on being so. One has to assume that the Spirit was guiding him, although I honestly can't imagine why the Spirit would have allowed so many faithful people to be scandalized. Except, perhaps, that this may have been outreach at a particular moment to other people? Who knows?

Still, I think Benedict is doing absolutely the right thing and I feel enormously encouraged by this. The next place he has got to look at is Fatima, which has become a hotbed of syncretism under the Portuguese bishop in charge.

I have heard stuff about Fatima. I bet ya Benedict is keeping a careful eye on it, too...

**Tighter Controls on Events of Franciscian Monks**

Next, we pray will be tighter guidelines for the Jesuits.

The Globe are such biased idiots.

Reminds me of Alfred P. Rather talking about the 2000 election and Katherine Harris declaring the election "as she sees it."

To allow a greater good to come out of it. What exactly that greater good is, I'm not sure, but it will happen.

I'd also say that Pope John Paul II was a great preacher and evangelist, but not the best administrator. It wasn't his charism.

Outright suppression or abolition would be more appropriate.

There are some good Jesuits left. And the REAL Jesuit tradition is a good one. The universities need to have their Catholic credentials pulled one by one. Enough of this pussy-footing. That goes for Notre Dame, too.

This matter in Assisi made Italy stand up and take notice. We need something like that in the US. Maybe pulling Catholic from ND might have an effect.
