In the back of our heads, we're all thinking about this. Even the agnostics in my office have take note.
Not sure the source of Mike Brown's Middle Ages info but here's an opportunity to post your own impressions.

It was the time of the great bubonic plague, and just before both Asia and Europe were hit with it, there were strange, historic rumblings in Asia. With the possibility of the avian flu, and the resultant dislocations from the recent events.. Well maybe a chastisement is coming.

I have posted on another thread about the virtual disappearce of birds from my area (Maryland/Chesapeake Bay). Birds of all types are just...gone. The silence and lack of bird song is noticeable and unusual. The usual riotous squirrel population has also gone missing.

My Dad mentioned that at their house in Nebraska, all the sparrows are gone.
Not sure why, but it is kind of freaky. There used to be thousands of the things making a mess all over the farm!
But then again, they do have a number of really fat cats :)

In 1993, I came home from work the memorial day weekend Friday to face major flooding. Large amount of snowfall during winter, along with a cool spring has caused the spring runoff to be late and violent. During that weekend a 3 foot wall of sandbags was all that saved my house from major damage.
The same summer, 1993, Fourth of July weekend, my house faced a range wild fire that turned around 300 yards from my back door.
Again, 1993, all of my trees were denuded of leaves, because the large amount of moisture in the ground had caused the grasshopper population to grow to biblical proportions.
I went to my insurance agent and asked if he could give me famine insurance, because I had already experienced 3 of the 4 plagues. fire, water, and pestilence.

I tend to discount these type of stories. If we are doing what we should do, then what good does this do. If God wills it, I am not one to argue. This isn't prophecy, it is hand wringing.
A Priest told me live like you are going to die in five minutes. Live like a truck is barreling down the road and will hit you in the next fifteen minutes. This Priest died on his feet in his rectory kitchen and was dead before he hit the ground from a massive heart attack. Boom, like that.
You are just as dead as if the plague hits you in the middle of a hurricane and a big meteor strikes North America, turning it into the next moon of Earth. That would be just as much the will of God, as a Toyota driven by a old man running you down in front of 7-11.

I may contact them. I keep hoping it is just a natural reaction to our drought (which was finally broken this week). Maybe most people don't pay attention to birds like I do. But surely if this is a real unnatural phenomenon it will show up over on the Maryland Eastern Shore among the wild duck and goose population. If we ever get bird flu here I worry about the Eastern shore and the huge chicken farm industry there.

It's certainly in the back of all our heads. Christianity has become so convoluted, that outside of the Catholic Church, Christianity as a faith is in steep decline. The fruition of homosexual clergy and sanctioned homosexual marriage in various denominations cannot be overlooked, wherein the Church teaches that sodomy is one of four sins that cries out for the justice of God. Societal approval of this abomination will not go unchecked by the Father.
I think it's reasonable to begin assessing these events as being part of a chastisement. The deaths of Sr. Lucia and Pope John Paul II are not without relevace to this discussion.
