Foster: The problem today is that evangelism has reached the point of diminishing returns. I talk with people and they say, "What am I to be converted to? I look at Christians and statistically they aren't any different." You want to be able to point to people who are really different.

And at the same time there's this continual push to make church services attractive and 'seeker sensitive.'

"We look like the world, sound like the world, and even taste like the world (if you stop for a latte in the narthex)...but we're not really the world. Trust us on this one..."

This is the problem I have with ecumenicalism. It reduces the message down to "God loves you. Go out and be happy." Any effort to understand God beyond this context is erased by one group or another.

The problem isn't the socialists or feminists who have infiltrated the churches. True believers should simply boot them out the door. But instead we partner with them in their socialist agendas thinking harmony will further the cause of Christ. Kind of like Gen 6 all over again.

Indeed! We decry the modern culture and then fling the doors wide open and embrace that very culture. People walk in and see that what is going on is no differnent that what they can get elsewhere (i.e. Oprah) and leave thinking "I don't see what is so special about church. I could have stayed home and got the same thing
