Pope Benedict will face the toughest crowd of his four-month-old papacy when he visits the World Youth Day festival in Germany, where more than 400,000 lively young Catholics are expected to greet him. Although the youngsters from almost 200 countries are guaranteed to give the 78-year-old German a hearty reception, Benedict will come under scrutiny not only for what he tells his audience but the amount of charm and warmth he can muster. Thanks so much for this post! Wonderful pictures! God Bless Pope Benedict XVI!
He's looking good, better than he did during his first days as Pope.

Very nice pictures. I'm glad he got his beanie cap back after if blew off. ;) How unusual to see a pope without it on. I wonder if his entourage carries spares?
Looks like he got a nice reception.
Hot diggity! Glad to see so many young people coming to join our Pope in prayer.
Simply beautiful, as always, Pyro -- thanks!
I've been to Cologne 4 times including last September. These are amazing pictures. I watched most of it on EWTN this morning, and they are replaying it right now. I suppose it will be on again tonight.
The sight of those pilgrims wading in the Rhein are really awesome. I hope their faith is as fervent as their enthusiasm! Pope B-XVI looked very calm and happy today. His English skill are very good. It was amazing to hear the clapping from different groups when he changed languages - from German to English to French to Spanish to Italian. I think the Holy Spirit really knew what He was doing when He inspired the Cardinals to vote for Ratzinger in April!
Thank you for this beautiful thread!
wonder photos! Thanks!
