Carter: Southern Baptists Discriminate Against Women
The Kansas City Channel ^ | 7/31/05 | AP

BIRMINGHAM, England -- Former President Jimmy Carter said the Southern Baptist Convention is led by men who are "devout and sincere," but want "to keep women in their place."

Carter led Sunday's Bible study at the Baptist World Congress in Birmingham, England, which was attended by an estimated 12,000 Baptists from around the world.

He lamented the absence of the Southern Baptist Convention, which dropped out of the Baptist World Alliance last year, citing alleged liberal tendencies.

But the former president said Southern Baptists and other conservative churches misuse Scripture to deny women an equal opportunity to serve as ministers.

I wouldn't want to belong to any church that lets Jimmy Carter lead Bible classes. He twists the Bible to fit the liberal Democrat agenda and shouldn't be seeking attention and glory for his sanctimonious self.

The SBC is clawing their way back to being solid, Bible-Believing denomination.

It seems that Jimmy has the pages of scripture confused with that of the liberal left.

Hmm.. Carter -- another hysteric heard from. How to take seriously someone always nattering about their "supposed" victim status, and always shrieking "discrimination!".

His position, Carter's, postulates that the women of the Southern Baptist orgs are STUPID, MINDLESS DROIDS. That they have no "choice". They do. It amazes me, perpetually, how feminists posit women are smarter than men, and then postulate crap like Carter is. Their joint cognitive dissonance on many matters is pulling the Dems into the abyss. Make up your MINDS! Are women SMART? Or are they STUPID?

As tho women in the Southern Baptist churches aren't making conscious choices in attending the churches of their CHOICE.

Oh, offal.

Carter has a very narrow sectarian viewpoint doesn't he?

Makes me think of the guys who burned Jeanne d'Arc at the stake!

If Jimmy Carter wanted to say something that would advance the treatment of women, then he could comment on the treatment of Muslin women around the world.

That is not all that Carter has been saying at the BWC:

Carter blasts Guantanamo detention camp

The SBC left the BWC because it was getting too political and too leftist.... mmmm I wonder where they got that idea?

I think the tendencies are more than alleged. The SBC is a very theologically sound christian church. Which means they won't re-interpret the Bible to suit Jimmeh. This is nothing more than yet another hit piece on my church. You get used to it after a while.

This is what I love about Baptists, all Baptists, even liberal ones. If you disagree, you can peacefully depart from your church. If your church disagrees, they can peacefully depart from any convention, alliance, etc., that they belong to. If members of a church disagree, they can peacefully, or maybe not, split and form two churches, both of which can affiliate with any convention they please. Or be an independent church.

This is real democracy in action
