[To the readers of Pontifications this will have come as no surprise. The Rev. Al Kimel's blog has been a forum for various churches to make their case, and he was certainly approving a few months back when his son became Roman Catholic. I know this is a sad day for him and his wife, but I am sure there will be brighter days in the battles ahead. --sionnsar]

For "the Pennsylvania state grant for the bell tower" ACLU will eat alive him and all others involved, without even having gutted them first.

We have completed an ambitious capital funds drive, receiving pledged commitments of almost $280,000. If we also include the anonymous gift of air-conditioning for the church and the Pennsylvania state grant for the bell tower, we have raised approximately $400,000. We can be very proud of this! It's kind of rough, though. He received all these monies and pledges and he's leaving to become a Catholic. His congregation is left high and dry and who knows what they'll get for a priest next after all their efforts to support him.

Very sad, nonetheless, as Bp. Duncan is one of the most orthodox of the Bishops. If a traditional Priest believes he cannot function honestly even in such a relatively "safe" Diocese it does not bode well for the rest ECUSA.

This is great good news for the Catholic Church. Fr. Alvin Kimmel is an outstanding Anglican of the most Catholic variety, and we must must all pray for him and his wife.
His son recently entered the Catholic Church.
Fr. Kimel is a good friend of Fr. Newman at St. Mary's in Greenville, South Carolina for those familiar with that great Catholic parish.

"radical inclusivity"
An applicable term I hadn't heard before. It's a keeper.

From the pages of
Vivificat! The Newman charism persists in the Episcopal Church
Father Alvin Kimel, rector of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Johnstown, PA, has turned in his resignation and has requested admission in the Catholic Church. Fr. Kimel has stated he will pursue reordination in the Catholic Church under the Pastoral Provision the Holy See has instituted to that effect.
I want to extend my most heartful welcome home to Fr. Kimel and his family, and rejoice with him, and pray for him for the trials he will continue to face as he continues serving the Lord.
- Read Fr. Kimmel's blog entry regarding his decision.
- Read the Holy See's Pastoral Provision for the readmission of Anglican clergymen into the Catholic Church
