You might want to get the Minerth and Maier books "Happiness is a Choice" and 'Love is a Choice" for a very Christian look at psychiatry.

And you might want to read up on the difference between pop-psycology and psychiatry.

My success rate (measured in marriages that persevered rather than dissolved for three years after the therapy) was far better than 22%. It was over 75%.

Could you break that down as to Calvinists and Arminians? ;-)

John Calvin saved me from the NIV.

Actually, it was the CRC that first began the efforts that became the NIV and eventually the New York Bible Society took over the funding efforts for the work on the NIV. Edwin Palmer played a major role in the translation that became the NIV and laid out the groundwork for the NIV Study Bible prior to his death.

After retirement, I accepted a position as pastor which I continue to hold.

To repeat, the Myers-Briggs can be useful.

The inventory itself says that the individual's perception of where they actually fit is more important than the box they get placed in by their answers to the questions.

There can also be float over time, so there's almost a retro-ductive zeroing in on where one fits in the "this era" of their lives.

I would predict float in Jude's result due to Law School. Put a bunch of folks in a touchy-feely seminary environment and they all start floating toward ENFP.

Those are excellent points. Thanks for the insight.

The 22% success rate would have been an eye opener, indeed. I enjoyed reading your experiences with relating some disorders to demonic activity. I agree with you. As the scriptures say - We fight not flesh and blood, but principalities of darkness and etc. Ephesians.

How's this for another shocker - The sucess rate for AA 12 step groups, is somewhere in the 5 to 8 percent area. I found that to be very interesting. Especially in light of the fact that many of those in AA, look down on those who stop drinking without the use of AA's 12 step program.

As of a matter of fact, I've read that President Bush is a dry drunk because he quit drinking WITHOUT the use of AA. A theory, I find to be outrageous.

Maybe, though I maintain that I am just not an ENFP. I was an INTJ before law school, and would approach seminary from that angle.

How much of that is trained, I don't know. But it is accurate.

I am glad you said former pastor. I always have to balance my gut reaction so that I am not falling into the sin of judging someone. Judging is idolatry. It dethrones Christ from his position as THE JUDGE, and replaces Him with myself.
Psychology cannot be separated from the spiritual. So yes a pastor must work with both. That does not mean he is to work with 'A professional' He should have trusted active growing strong Christians who know the word and the living word to aid him in his guidance and counsel.
What is the religious model of the church? The older are to mentor the younger. God is totally into prevention. He prevented your arrival in Hell before the foundation of the world. He prepared a path for you that would keep you whole; mentally, physically, spiritually...Financially.
He also heals. All professionals exercise faith. Just like you have faith in the tools you use, they have faith in their human ability, the combined human ability of science, technology...etc. Our speech shows that we have faith in. Do we say that God healed us when our finger is cut and it is restored? Is it any less God? You get the picture.
A pastor that is lecturing you on your faults in the less than perfect formation of your image of Christ is blaming you for what God has not completed in you. Do we believe the word or not? Do we completely have faith that what it says we can do we already have the power to do? Do we believe that we can do greater works than Jesus or not? That is what it says. A pastor that is saying your are not complete, is not only speaking the obvious but he is betraying his lack of faith. A pastor that believes he must preach to convict you and change your behavior is betraying his idolatry. He has removed the Holy Spirit from His work and replaced Him with himself.
I know that these are strong statements, but it is time for the body of Christ to rise from the dead. We must in al ways be moving and doing what the father directs us. That is the example of Christ. What did Jesus do to the woman at the well. Did he tell her to repent? Did He tell her to leave her husbands, lovers,? He pointed it out. He made it plane. Did He condemn her? John 4:4-42. Read it carefully. Try to take out the tone that is implied by clumsy translations. Look for the reaction of the individuals. This is a good model of counsel and of pasturing.

I dont disagree that the Meyers briggs seems to put people in to catagories. But that is only if you believe them to be infalable. I am glad to have the tool reach 70% accuracy in any application.

Thanks for stating the pastoral key and its importance. I could not agree with you more. Yet there is still more. We all as counseling Christians should be striving to deminish for Him to increase. If a counselor is not pointing you to Jesus seek another counselor.

Isn't that were you should be. Is your right hand Identical to your left? Are your strengths matched with her weakness to create a better whole? This does not happen without love and the continual praising of God for her differences. It is just a tool I like. Ever try to open a can with a screwdriver? Therefore I threw out the screw driver. -Because it did not meet my expectations, and cut my hand.- I went and dug it out of the trash when I had to loosen a screw though.

In your case, and with my preconceptions about law school, I'd expect you to float in the direction of an ISTJ. It would be evidenced in the strength of the numbers in your original INTJ. Your N should become weaker.

I agree with you.

The pastoral role is critical. And any pastor who isn't pointing to Jesus is failing.

I've read enough of your posts to be wary of ingenuineness.

Then perhaps we'd all be better served if you'd just stop psychoanalyzing me.

If it fulfills some emotional judgmental need of yours, you may have the last word.
