It's hinted at in the above article, but with a negative spin to it.
Great post. Clearly and simply written. Thanks.
You need an autopsy to determine a cause of death. None was ever done. JPI's dead body was green. That doesn't occur with a heart attack.
I should also add that Calvi's death was the opposite of what the Church wanted. His death did not help Marcinkus.
It sunk him.
If Calvi had lived to testify, he would have been able to hand over the goods on a number of well-connected Mafia figures and he would have probably corroborated the embarrassing fact that Marcinkus was a useful idiot.
So much of the anecdotal stuff coming out of the story suggests this.
Thanks for your input.
If that's the case, then we have no clue what caused the death of 99.99999% of the people who die.
How many people do you know of who have had autopsies performed on them after they died?
None was ever done.
So? No autopsy was performed on John Paul II. Or Paul VI. Or Bl. John XXIII. Or Pius XII. Or Pius XI. Or Benedict XV. Or St. Pius X. Or Leo XIII. Or Bl. Pius IX. Were they all secretly poisoned in your opinion?
JPI's dead body was green.
No, it wasn't. Paul VI is the Pope whose body famously took on a greenish tinge while he was lying in state.
That doesn't occur with a heart attack.
I'm sure you're a medical doctor with a Ph.D in forensic pathology, but please tell us simple folk how a heart attack prevents a corpse from rotting.
Good thing there was no autopsy. Don't want to add fuel to the conspiracy theories, now.
Whew! That was a close one.
And no autopsy for JPII, either. Papal ring kept intact for a week. Yeah, nothing to be concerned about there. The truth is much more boring, after all.
Don't mind me. I'm just watching the parade...
That was Paul VI on day six after death. He was poorly embalmed, and the discoloration and swelling was due to tissue gas.
"Didn't I just hear bells?"
"No you couldn't have. Ignore it, it's just your imagination."
Why in the world should the Church submit the body of the Supreme Pontiff to an autopsy just because there are scurrilous rumors in tabloid newspapers?
Honestly, why?
Autopsies are supposed to provide scientific data. In this age of scientism, where science is so very important, which is a better course: no data and lots of rumors, or data and therefore answers?
I read somewhere that it is common practice for popes to not be embalmed and for them to have an autopsy. I don't know where it was, but perhaps it was an error. Do you know if embalming is traditional for a pope's body? I can't find any info on the Net about it.
John XXIII was splendidly embalmed, as can be noted by the condition of his body currently on display in a glass case in St. Peter's. Paul VI was horridly embalmed. JPI was embalmed; JPII wasn't.
Pius XII was "embalmed" by his quack doctor (who likely caused his death) who actually only rubbed some oil over his body and dusted his face with powder.
Pius XII lay in state for eight days in humid October weather. Swiss Guards had to take fifteen minute turns due to the odor and several cardinals were overcome with nausea when praying next to the bier.
When his body was transferred to the wooden casket for the Mass, his nose literally detached from his face, due to rapid decomposition.
Exactly what does that have to do with the price of tea in China? You folks get more and more bizarre in your attempts to support straw men.
AGAIN, produce the autopsy report which states JPI died of a heart attack. If you can't, stop making this false claim.
And yes, he was embalmed. His corpse was not rotting.
JPII was most definitely embalmed. How do you think he stayed in such good condition for an entire week? He was even touched up during the week.
**giving Mass**
How does a priest "give" a Mass? (Maybe this is a journalist who doesn't really know that much about the Catholic Mass??) LOL!
Say a Mass, yes.
The Vatican said that John Paul II was not embalmed, and the "official" Vatican embalmers said, in an AP story, that they were never called.
They used different embalmers. The Vatican did not make an official announcemnt either way, but the media mentioned his body was touched up a few times during the week.
Would you care to explain how his body did not smell or decompose for over a week? Is this the next phase in the JPII instant canonization campaign?
Maybe the Vatican's just pulling a fast one, which it's known to do, from time to time on stuff like this.
Well, we all know that God is not allowed to preserve the body of one of his children incorrupt unless Canticle_of_Deborah gives Him permission, right?
His death certificate, signed by his personal physician, attests to his death by a myocardial infarction.
Perhaps you should prove your scurrilous insinuations.
And I repeat - if someone dies of a heart attack it does not mean that their body will not turn green as it decomposes. Your assertion that a body turning greenish is proof that there was no heart attack is laughably, pathetically ridiculous.
Almost as silly as your open schism.
