Why in the world should the Church submit the body of the Supreme Pontiff to an autopsy just because there are scurrilous rumors in tabloid newspapers?
Honestly, why?
Autopsies are supposed to provide scientific data. In this age of scientism, where science is so very important, which is a better course: no data and lots of rumors, or data and therefore answers?
I read somewhere that it is common practice for popes to not be embalmed and for them to have an autopsy. I don't know where it was, but perhaps it was an error. Do you know if embalming is traditional for a pope's body? I can't find any info on the Net about it.
