Ive never heard of Gaudete Sunday before. The word Gaudete comes from the Introit of the (Traditional Latin) Mass for the third Sunday of Advent.
Gaudete in Domino semper...

Rose is the color you get if you take penitential purple and water it down. The rose vestments of Gaudete and Laetare Sundays remind the faithful to temper their sorrow with joy at the thought of the Lord's nearness.
