When I went to St. Davids here in Denton yesterday morning, the Third Sunday in Advent, I was surprised to find the liturgical color was . . . pink.
Ive since found out that wasnt pink, that was rose. Uh, huh. It sure looked pink to me. And I found out the Third Sunday in Advent is Gaudete Sunday, hence pink, uh, rose liturgical colors. No, Ive never heard of Gaudete Sunday before. Im still learning.
One of the minor reasons Ive became Anglican is because its, well, fun. Seeing the rector in rather fancy pink, I mean, rose vestments are certainly part of that.
Heres a fun discussion that fills in some colorful details on Gaudete Sunday.
It is Pink in the Episcopal church right? Rose in the rest of the Communion?? /smirk
Oof! Perhaps....

Thank you!
The word Gaudete comes from the Introit of the (Traditional Latin) Mass for the third Sunday of Advent.
Gaudete in Domino semper...
Rejoice in the Lord always...
Rose is the color you get if you take penitential purple and water it down. The rose vestments of Gaudete and Laetare Sundays remind the faithful to temper their sorrow with joy at the thought of the Lord's nearness.
