Unless we go into the classrooms ourselves armed with a proper catechesis (Faith and Life, as edited by Father John Harden) this will not abate. V's wife.

The Pope may rock, but he's still a failed pontiff. He has been derelict in the one thing necessary: protection of the deposit of faith.

Fortunately for me and the Pope, you're way over my head.

"Now would be a good time to purchase her a Catechism of the Catholic Church. In fact, pick up two! Your friend obviously needs to read it too."

Nobody reads the thing. It's like everything else that emanates from Rome nowadays--words, words, words, volumes upon volumes of supposed teachings--much of these fairly orthodox, all of them tepid. But actions speak much louder than words--and these tell a different story. The Pope has yet to show much interest in reforming his corrupt and apostate hierarchy, for instance--or even to try to keep himself from elevating such men. His zeal is for praying with animists and kissing Korans. Why should it surprise us if his subordinates have picked up on this? Everybody gets to join in the love fest that follows--witchdoctors, mullahs, Hindu priests. The only people excluded are Catholic Traditionalists.

Unfortunately your RCIA experiences are all too common. In the diocese of Richmond, Va the class was taught much heresy, including the ideas that artificial contraception is OK, that it is just about impossible to commit a mortal sin, confession is necessary only if "you feel a need" and the instructor refused to teach the proper way to go to confession. When pressed for more information she brushed off the questioner with "just confess your sins and say an act of contrition." As far as I know, in the parish I belong to now in a different state, the RCIA program is orthodox.

If only more Catholics would understand all the bonuses and benefits of "participating" in the "educational" and spiritual programs offered in the parish closest to them. First of all,it is one sure place to find a relatively uninformed group of potentiial "conversions". This in itself is a refresshing change after a steady diet of preaching to the choir, finding an oppurtunity to tell someone who doesn't know the beauty, goodness and truth of Catholicism is exciting.

Another interesting observation I have made is that it is often quite easy to redirect the entire session to talking about the Truth or actual Catholic teaching. This is because so many facilitators, instructors and/or educators are so progammed that once led off track have no idea of how to click back into the "program".

"Participation" in these programs is a wonderful way to accomplish what Pope John Paul II asked laymen to do years ago: "Suffocate error with Truth".

It was quite delicious to listen to the not-quite heresy(I use that term because actual heresy is never delicious to hear) spew forth from the pastor knowing that in a few minures I would ask an "innocent" question that would force him to either embrace a doctrine taken verbatim from the Catechism or deny it outight!

Classes would have "standing room only" if we could convey to all Catholic Freepers how very satisfying attending one of these goofy classes can be,if one goes prepared!!!

How does one bind God?

Well, we're supposed to exercise faith when we pray. So if we ask for something we're supposed to believe. If I pray about something and then five minutes later, say "oh, it's never going to happen", then we're "binding" or preventing God to answer our prayers because of our unbelief and he commands us to have faith.

Jesus even said to the woman who touched his cloak that it was her faith that healed her. IF she had had absolutely no faith whatsoever and said to Jesus, I don't believe you can heal me, would Jesus have healed her?

I'm not trying to be confrontational, but I grow weary of people verbalizing things they DON'T want. Would you ever board a plane and "say" over and over "the plane is going to crash, the plane is going to crash"? I know I sure wouldn't.

I will give you an example and try to make it really short. My sister had cancer, and was having serious difficulty conceiving because they had radiated her abdomen. She kept trying and praying, but then would say "I'm never going to get pregnant". I told her to speak what she wanted and she did for probably one day and said that she felt weird doing it. So, I did it for her. Since God operates outside of time, and he knows what we're going to pray for before we do, it's almost asif the prayer is already answered before we verbalize. I started speaking out loud "my sister IS pregnant, my sister IS pregnant" over and over and in the present tense. And I believed in what I was saying. The doctor had told her she was going into early menopause and probably didn't even have any eggs left, she also had her fallopian tubes stretched through surgery so the egg cell would have almost too long of a distance to travel. However, with God all things are possible. I spoke it over and over..... and guess what? She conceived and the doctors were all mystified. Total miracle. God is waiting to give us all miracles, if only we would truly believe that he will do good things for us.

We are to pray that God's will be done. We can't limit him. My original comment was to point out the faliure of the American bishops. It was not meant to be self defeating. Common things occur commonly.
