"They've transmitted an image of Christianity (and America) which is extravagant and circus-like which is no doubt what you were referring to."

Yes - together with connotations of the charlatan and insincere.

Obviously 5 minutes on FreeRepublic reveal quite the opposite of that stereotype, but sometimes I wonder what damage your media does when you see the images of America and Americans which it projects around the world.

So often we hear how hated the US is by other countries, but it is probably more accurate to say that it is this sort of stereotype which is what is loathed.

Imagine how the muslims in Gaza will feel when they pick up the trailers of a Benny Hinn show and hear that he's coming to their neck of the woods. The poor buggers will be terrified - it could be the start of WW3.

OTOH it may make them realise how badly they have offended God if He is prepared to allow Benny into Israel - they may see this as a real punishment and repent of their crimes just so that he will go home again.

As I recall, it is extremely difficult, if not impossible to get any documentation of complete, lifelong healings from him about people he supposedly "healed". And I have read from several handicapped people who were turned away from his "shows" because they didn't fit the criteria, and all sorts of other stuff. I have also read where some have come clean later and said they were "plants" and never needed healing to begin with.

If you are humbly interested in doing some research that shows him to be a fake and a false prophet and not at all of God, there are plenty of places I can steer you to read. It isn't Hinn that heals, but God. And not at the "command" of Hinn or any of his kind.

I do believe that if someone is really healed through Hinn, it wouldn't be a healing of God. Remember that Satan masquerades as an angel of light. The area of healing is one of those areas.

My husband says that Ernest Angsley can no longer smack people on the side of the head as he pronounces them "healed" because he did some damage to some guy's hearing once. I don't know if it is true, but as hard as he smacks people, I can certainly believe it. Everytime he is on while my husband is channel surfing, we have to watch and have a good chuckle at his antics. :)

Missy, You don't have to go everywhere to eat your bread. You have it right in front of you in the person of Jesus Christ. He alone will satisfy all of your spiritual needs. It's that simple. Cling to His words. So many Christians get caught up in the next best things and they miss out on a personal relationship with Christ. We don't need milk from super apostles but bread from the Master. Jesus stands right in front of you. Open to the book of John.

I think the more typical of American (evangelical) Christian would be someone like Charles Stanley of the Intouch Ministries ( http://www.intouch.org ) or the people at the Radio Bible Class ( http://www:gospelcom.net/rbc/ ). Hype has been said of charismatic "third wave", self-esteem teachings, and "Kingdom Now" theology of verious personalities from Robert Schuller and Pat Robertson and that they "represent American Christianity" according to many Britih Christians, but the reality is that they are only part of the scene. And IMHO they aren't really that influential.

You can imagine that had you been in their (American Christians) shoes all you would know of "British Christianity" is basically Rowan Williams, David Jenkins (Bishop of Durham), and Tricia Tillin ( http://www.banner.org.uk ). Either you are liberal modernist, or very-conservative-to-the-verge-of-paranoia independent fundamentalist Christians.

And speaking of Americans being hated around the world, mind you, your own country was in the same shoe in our grandparents' time - and at its peak in the Victorian era, British haughtiness far exceed anything we have seen of American ham-hum like Maurice Greene or whoever today - just ask Rudyard Kipling or Joseph P. Chamberlain about it. ;-) (I personally had the privilege of tasting some of that haughtiness when I grew up in the 1980s British Hong Kong - trust me, the british expats stationed in HK then were the epitome of arrogance when they were dealing with the local HK Chinese)

A former worker at TBN threatened to disclose an alleged 1996 homosexual encounter.

After Ford threatened to sue TBN in 1998, claiming that he had been unjustly fired, Crouch reached a $425,000 settlement with him. In return, Ford agreed, among other things, not to discuss his claim about a sexual encounter with the TV preacher.

I read another article that this story is one big lie.
The former drug addict employee was never paid from TBN's donations nor did he have a homosexual encounter with Paul Crouch.

Oh I know...
I realize all healing miracles in life are from Jesus, and although I don't know enough about the sincerity and the heart of Benny Hinn, I do believe that GOD does use rich, high profile people to get his word out:

Mel Gibson for one. As far as Benny Hinn goes I see that he has a ministry that takes him to parts of the world to bring the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I also find it interesting that he will be holding a Crusade in Israel?

Who will attend? Secular Jews? Orthodox Christians? American and European Tourists? All of the above?

I don't beleive that he himself can heal anyone, but if he is bringing un-beleivers to the word of GOD and the Gospel of Jesus Christ then how can that be a bad thing?

When Rick Jones, an ordained minister and former cop, heard his boss talking about another minister's homosexual activity with an employee, he "got up and walked away," the Los Angeles Times reported on its front page yesterday. "I didn't want to hear gossip."

But his boss was televangelist Benny Hinn, a staple on the Trinity Broadcasting Network. And Hinn was talking about TBN founder and president Paul Crouch. And Los Angeles Times reports that it's no longer just gossip—it's a tale of attempted extortion, litigation, and tragedy.

This article states Paul Crouch and tbn deny this claim, sounds like the same stuff Gov Schwarnegger went through

I am not a Benny Hinn defender, what I was trying to say for the thousands of people that do attend his crusades are followers of Jesus Christ, and if he is bringing them to the lord how is that bad? they are not following Satan, Muhammed or Buddah but Jesus of the Gospels....

All I am saying is that just because Jim Bakker and Jimmy Swaggart are Swines does that mean they all are? If Paul Crouch turns out to be a homo and is swindiling money he will go down too...

But the "Jesus" that Hinn preaches is NOT the Jesus of scripture and he is a false prophet. He preaches a Jesus that is on a puppet string to give us things we ask for. Scripture very clearly indicates the gospel of Christ is that He is all we need. Because of His perfect sacrifice on the cross, we have peace with God the Father. We must put to death our own wills and desires so that through the power of the Resurrection He lives through us. That is not the God nor the gospel the Hinn preaches. Here are some examples taken from some articles here

Many of the prophecies Hinn spoke in the late 80' through the 90's proved to not come to pass. "The Lord also tells me to tell you in mid 90's -- about '94 or '95, no later than that -- God will destroy the homosexual community of America . . . He will destroy it with fire." "The Spirit of God tells me -- an earthquake will hit the east coast of America and destroy much in the 90's.""The Spirit tells me -- Fidel Castro will die in the 90's. . . Holy Spirit just said to me, it'll be worse than any death you can imagine." (From the Alnor report)

Hinn once said Preachers who live in big houses and drive big cars ought to examine their calling.(9/93) but he now has a 6 million dollar home and can no longer say it.

In the HBO special (April 15,2001) they showed Hinn prophesying financial disasters having in mind Y2K on the horizon. “And only those who have been giving to God’s work will be spared.” Hinn then appeals to the crowd to “increase your faith (which translates in their giving) increase your seed and store up for the future, so that when these tragedies hit on earth you will be spared.” He then sends out the ushers with the envelopes after giving he instructs them to put their hands on the envelope and pray that nothing would touch them, their children, their home or finances.

Hinn even declares “He’ll heal if the preacher is preaching heresy… I’ve seen people healed in Church’s when the preacher is preaching heresy ” (This is your day 9/12/2000). This is a subtle mirrored statement if I ever heard one. Does God now endorse falsehood with power?

Recently in Dubai Hinn was speaking to the audience and participants in Arabic as most of the people spoke the language who attended his crusade and appears were Muslim. After a woman says she is healed Hinn replies rejoicing “I don’t know what faith she’s are, I am not going to ask her. It doesn’t really matter because the important thing is God has healed her, that’s all that matters.”(Nov.14, 2000 this is your day) The woman walked off the stage without Hinn making sure she knows who Jesus is.

What kind of minister would say such a thing? Would the apostles say this? Would Jesus? This reveals the false gospel of Hinn. How can he justify someone being healed physically and then dying spiritually. Would you rather see this person be in hell whole or sick in the body but saved for eternity to be in heaven. It does matter to God and it should to those who love him.

Benny Hinn: And I'm preaching to a great crowd that I saw. I saw an angel of the Lord in that dream. Now, I won't say any more about that because I don't feel at liberty what that angel was doing, not on television. I'll share that maybe later on some other programs if God permits me. But now as I'm done preaching I walk into what looked like the temple of God. I'm in the throne room. I see God's throne, I see the seats of the elders, but its empty. God was not in there. (TBN, "Praise The Lord", 12/29/02)

Is God ever missing from His throne? To be on the throne means He is ruling. Did He ever on a vacation? How can this dream be of God. Psalms 47:8 God reigns over the nations; God is seated on his holy throne.

Look at these statements made by Mr. Hinn at the Blaisdale Arena, Honolulu, HI, on February 28, 1997: I’ve know moments of such anointings, it’s really hard for me to describe those moments. I’ve known moments when I’ve not only felt the presence of God, I’ve smelled the presence of God. I did this morning right here. And others around me smelled the fragrance of frankincense. In Detroit, Michigan, so great was the presence of God, the entire building filled up with a mist and we began to breathe in and smell it, frankincense, presence of the Lord. Steve Brock, you smelled it with me and Ron . . . I’ve seen the presence of God. I’ve not only felt it. I’ve not only smelled it. I’ve seen it with my own eyes." "He’s more real to me than my own children. Do you know something? that is difficult for me to explain I’m just gonna tell you. Whenever I talk to Him, I see Him. I can tell you what He wears, I can tell you what color He has on. I’ve seen that so many times. I’m, I’m talking about regular. When I talk to the Lord at times I see Him wearing a, a, a, often most times I’d see Him blue, beautiful, almost like a silkish-looking garment. And under it would be white garment. A white and a scarlet garment. I’ve seen Him at times when just pure white altogether.

You say, ‘When do you see Him?’ I don’t know, I just see Him. And often when I see Him, I know whether He is pleased with me or displeased with me. There’s been times when I see Him with a smile. Other times I’ve seen Him with a very serious look. Other times I couldn’t really tell it’s almost like a mist around His face I couldn’t tell. I don’t understand why He allows me to see that. But I do. And He speaks to me so clearly. He tells me to say things and do things and pray even for things. You know, I ask Him questions that most people probably don’t ask Him. Example, I said, ‘Lord, show my my future. Actually, I had a vision. I saw myself as an old man with white hair and I had a dark suit on with stripes, and my girls . . . thirties, old thirties, and they had beautiful curly hair. They looked like Dino’s wife. What’s her name? Dino’s wife? Gary’s sister? Sharon. I said, ‘Lord, how long will I live?’ He told me. He said, ‘Sixty-nine. If you take care of yourself, seventy-three.’ So I want to buy a treadmill. I’ve asked Him these kind of things. I’ve asked him things about people."

"This is recently. I’m not talking about a long time ago. He was about six feet two. Old man. Had a beard. White-like Norvelles jacket. Glistening white beard. His face was somewhat thin. But, very bold! Eyes - crystal blue. He had on a white garment; whiter than my shirt could ever get. On his head was a shawl, like a, like a covering. He looked like a priest. Every part of him glistened like crystal. And I spoke out and I said, ‘Lord, who is this man I see?’ I know you may, you may think I lost my mind, but the Lord said, ‘Elijah, the prophet!’ I never heard the Lord say that to me you know when that happened? That happened days before the anointing on my life doubled. Literally, the ministries’ anointing doubled after that. I’ve never shared this, I’ve been scared people are going to think he’s gone crazy! And, it happened twice!

Two nights; one and the next day. And right after that, the anointing on this ministry doubled. Now, I don’t understand why the Lord allowed me to see that. I’ve not just seen angels; I’ve seen saints. Can I tell you? This might even shock you a little more. The Lord gave me a vision of Kathryn Kuhlman sitting with what seemed to be a group of people . . . and every one of them seemed to be urging me to pray. Now, I know this sounds crazy, but it’s all right. I don’t mind crazy because I liked what I saw . . . I was in prayer at uh, least hours . . . At least fifty to seventy of them sitting in a group, and they were saying to me, ‘Pray! Ask God to give you a healing ministry that will touch the world! And suddenly, I heard Kathryn’s voice and suddenly there she was its crystal clear. And she in her beautiful smile, she said, ‘Ask! We’re waiting for you to ask! We’re praying with you to ask!’ And the vision disappeared. And suddenly I said, ‘Lord!’ And I asked. A week later the anointing hit my life. I believe the saints in Heaven urge us to pray. Urge us to do it!

Do you know why I believe it? It’s in the Bible! You say, ‘Show it to me.’ Jesus saw Moses and Elijah who came to talk to Him about His passion on the cross! Ladies and gentlemen, there is way more than what you know about God! And the reason I’m telling you all of this? The Lord said to me only a few days ago. He said, ‘You’re about to come to a new level. Get ready!’ And I’m already feeling the rumblings in the heavenlies. Somebody is about to talk to me again. Something is about to happen again. I don’t know what it is. I’m so excited, I feel butterflies in my tummy. I feel something. I’ve had three prophets lately, absolutely, people that know the voice of God that have said to me, ‘You’re about to walk into a new inheritance in the spirit.’ I don’t know what it is, when it is, but it’s coming. And tonight, the Lord is putting it upon my heart to pray for you that you should walk into a new inheritance in the Holy Ghost." (Excerpted from message presented at the Blaisdale Arena, Honolulu, HI, 2/28/97).

Notice that he stated clearly that he had seen saints ("dead saints") and that they talked to him, gave him instructions, and told him they were praying for him. This is clearly necromancy or communication with the dead. He went further to state that his necromancy was Biblically supported by Jesus Christ’s experience on the Mount of Transfiguration when Moses and Elijah talked to the Lord.
