Trust me, I understand that Mary was most Blessed. Imagine being chosen to physically usher in the savior of the world.

Another thing I often ponder about Mary is her having remained pure when God called on her to be so blessed. She would not have been the person God chose if she had not been a faithful handmaid who had protected her purity.

She is an example for all of us who desire to be used of God!

"P.S. I have family and friends who are Catholic and are Born Again believers, which indicates to me salvation comes from knowing Jesus Christ as savior."

This is a curious statement. It sounds as if you are using data gathered by observation of other people to prove something pertaining to divine revelation to be true without reference to Scripture.

Why not just base everything on the Scriptures?

If I based my salvation on my "doctrine", I would not be a believer in Jesus Christ. Fortunately, Jesus is in the sanctification business!

That being said, I believe the standard for Godliness can be found in the pages of scripture, because the Holy Spirit has chosen the Bible to be His permanent record of testimony concerning Jesus Christ. Believing the Gospel of Jesus Christ can bring a person into reconciliation with the Creator of the universe, whereas studying the Word as a believer begins the a process.

Phil 1:6
6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:

May the Father Bless you as you pursue His Son.

Well at by your #21 you at least venerate Mary and realize that she is the Mother of God, as God the Son told us when He was dying on the cross.

Your scripture above is inapplicable to Marian doctrine, which is one reason why your former church advises extreme caution when interpreting the word. Contextual, linguistic, historic and other nuances play a huge role.

Your posts from Matthew for example, here is more:

Matthew 6
6 But thou when thou shalt pray, enter into thy chamber, and having shut the door, pray to thy Father in secret, and thy father who seeth in secret will repay thee. 7 And when you are praying, speak not much, as the heathens. For they think that in their much speaking they may be heard. 8 Be not you therefore like to them for your Father knoweth what is needful for you, before you ask him.

As you can see repeating a prayer wasn't the issue, "showboating" piety was.

I always end the Rosary with the prayer:

"Oh God, Whose Only Begotten Son, by His life, death and resurrection, has purchased for us the reward of eternal life. Grant, we beseech Thee, that meditating on the mysteries of the most holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we may imitate what they contain, and obtain what they promise, through the same Christ Our Lord. Amen."

But I don't know the name of this prayer. Anybody know?

I don't understand how observing a group of Catholics, who you claim are also "Born again believers" (a nebulous phrase which seems presented as a distinct principle apart from Catholicism) proves anything about the source of salvation.

Thank You! I was just hoping for something like this the other night!

Many individuals on this ping list are religious scholars. Others, like me, are fairly intelligent and devout but have no religious education worth mentioning. For some of us in the latter category such a simple guide is invaluable!

One tiny request (only because I don't have access to Photoshop): Would someone be able to create a version with a white or light background, and different text lettering colors, to make it more amenable to color printing? I would like to print it on high-quality photo paper.

It is my firm belief that if Mary were part of this conversation she would ask us to "venerate" her Savior Jesus Christ, not herself. Jesus clearly honored His mother, but asks us to pray to and worship only God.

1 Tim 2:5
5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

The Father chose His Son to be the mediator, and I want to be sure to use His structure, not mans. No Saint Paul the mediator, or Mary the mediator. One mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; (no one will lose their salvation over misunderstanding this point, only relinquish blessings and power they have coming to them as a believer).

As you can see repeating a prayer wasn't the issue, "showboating" piety was.

I agree, Jesus was making that point as well.

Matt 6:7
7 And when you are praying, speak not much, as the heathens. (emphasis added)

You keep missing the "speak not much" part. Psalms 119:19-16

9 How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word.
10 With my whole heart I have sought You; Oh, let me not wander from Your commandments!
11 Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You.
12 Blessed are You, O LORD! Teach me Your statutes.
13 With my lips I have declared All the judgments of Your mouth.
14 I have rejoiced in the way of Your testimonies, As much as in all riches.
15 I will meditate on Your precepts, And contemplate Your ways.
16 I will delight myself in Your statutes; I will not forget Your word.

Jesus is the source of salvation.

John 14:6
6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

No denomionation listed there from what I can see. Those who I term "Born Again" recognize this fact, whether Catholic or otherwise.

John 3:5-7
5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. (emphasis added)

Hope this helps.

Catholics believe the door between death and life is very thin, hence the communion of saints. I find it inpractical that while we ask a total stranger on an internet to pray for us but not God-the-Son's mother who lives in heaven.

Thanks for the discussion, but I'm not really up to a big debate (using totally inapplicable scripture) about Marian doctrine right now. You'll have to find someone else to "care" about.

I tried removing the black background and it didn't look good at all. If you bring the black version to a Kinkos or similar it should print very nicely. I have a high-res (300dpi) jpeg that is about 5" x 5" that I can send you if you like.

That would leave enough room on a 8 1/2" x 11" any text you wanted to add.

Forgive my ridiculous grammar on 31, I'm trying to do too many things at once.

Thank you for posting the "O Sublime Humility" prayer of St. Francis. Have you ever read The Omnibus of Sources? It is THE ultimate "Francis" book of prayer, and includes all of his writings.

Fr. Francis Mary reads the Sublime Humility prayer on EWTN's introduction to the Daily Mass.

ver since I was a kid, I've ended the rosary (after the Hail Holy Queen) with the prayer to St. Michael the Archangel.

I am too young to remember when the prayer to St Michael the Archangel was part of the mass. In fact I had never heard of it until a year or so ago. Someone gave me a bookmark with the prayer in English and Latin. The prayer has become one of my favorites.

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle, be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil; may God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou O Prince of the heavenly hosts, by the divine power, thrust into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen. Sancte Michael Archangele, defende nos in proelio, contra nequitiam et insidias diaboli esto praesidium. Imperet illi Deus, supplices deprecamur: tuque, Princeps militiae coelestis, Satanam aliosque spiritus malignos, qui ad perditionem animarum pervagantur in mundo, divina virtute, in infernum detrude. Amen.

Matt 15:2-3 2 Why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? for they wash not their hands when they eat bread. 3 But he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition?

If you read the rest of the passage you will find that Christ is admonishing them for abusing a specific tradition. That is they pledge their goods to the temple (tradition) to avoid having to care for their parents (commandment). Christ was not deriding traditions in toto.

"Jesus is the source of salvation."

That's why we say the Rosary, and why AABEST is doing one of the simpliest yet most powerful and profitable things a person can do in this life, which is the promotion of the Holy Rosary.

You've seen the movie The Passion I'm sure. Everything you saw comes as no surprise to any Catholic who has said the Sorrowful Mysteries.

Good work AABEST. Just fyi, I was always taught the faith, hope and charity Ave's for those first three beads as well.
