Would like to know if there are any other Christians out there that have not swallowed Rick Warren's version of the Gospel. I left my "seeker-friendly" Church after much prayer and ponder, and it took several months to make the split. I still must speak with my former pastor about this, so until I do, I will not name my former Church. I have noticed that most who follow the "Purpose Driven" material are emotionally attached to it, much like true Christians are emotionally tied to the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
>> That is exactly the problem, with each new ministry, there is more and more compromise of the truth.<<
Sez who? Poor God, unable to keep his word pure...
Says your own Pastor.
Seems he also has at least a problem with the paraphrases.
God is able to keep His word pure and has, in the King James Bible.
Good pt.
I'm grieved that you can swallow the false notion that the KJV [which I love and was reared on]
is flawless. It's NOT flawless.
In some key respects, it's not even more flawless than some of the modern paraphrases. But I'm really loathe to carry the KJV debate any further. There appears to be little 'objective reality' available in that debate.
I don't recall ever questioning your sanity, mental health, your personhood or even your IQ.
I do assail horrid assertions and gross misstatements of fact. And, sometimes, I try and hold up some semblence of a mirror to you since yours seem to be wholesale shattered.
However, you sling such assaults about my sanity, mental health, personhood rather routinely--seemingly as a gleeful and very mean spirited habit.
I suspect the more discerning and well Biblically grounded amongst us could walk into virtually any congregations Sunday morning service and hear even the top 10% of the pastors say some questionable things. And, no small amount of them would at least occasionally say some outrageous things. This is true regardless of the centuries the brand of Christianity has been in bondage to traditions of men--or not. This is true regardless of brand, size, age of the congregation , the education or not of the pastor, the style of government of the congregation etc.
I dare say that some of the pastors of some of the naysayers on this thread routinely utter outrageous unBiblical things from the stand point, perspective and spiritual experiences of some of the others of us on this thread.
You make it sound like new ministries in general and Rick Warren in particular are horribly MUCH MORE flawed than the average pastor of, I suppose your brands of Christianity. I've been in all those brands. Such an assumption is full of horse biscuits in my experience.
Sometimes, it seems like the more SEMINARIES/CEMETARIES the Pastor has graduated from, the more outragbeous errors he spouts.
Thanks for the witness Quix.
Ofcourse it is.
Neo-Evangelicals are not, they will not preach the negative, since they are afraid that someone be offended.
Better to be offended and get saved, then go to hell believing a false Gospel.
Ofcourse there is an objective reality in the dabate, the failure to find a provable error in it!
I do try to be at least moderately faithful to The Lord's oft-confirmed-from-a-diversity-of-sources call to . . .
comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable.
I still think of you as much too smart to believe that the KJV is flawless.
I doubt the KJV translators thought it was flawless.
I have a personal hunch that God insured that the original documents of Scripture were lost just so we couldn't reasonably think that we had a perfect object, a perfect book in our hands.
He WANTS US, INSISTS,
that we go to HIM, learn to hear HIS VOICE to get our more specific daily directions.
Carrying around a flawless book would make it even more of an idol than the KJV has become anyway.
Rick Warren teaches the whole counsel of God.
He does not seem to talk about hell etc. in the traditional ways of a hundred years ago. Perhaps that's because that audience is dead.
He's doing The Master's Busioness. I'd do it a little differently. I'm not him.
And, I don't have the mandate God gave him to fulfill.
There have been plenty of errors found in the KJV. I'd think you'd know that if you were going to presume such knowledge about the KJV.
I REALLY don't want to get into the particulars. This is a lot further than I wanted to go already.
It is tedius and worthless to debate it.
I do. (the text is)
I doubt the KJV translators thought it was flawless.
What they thought is irrelevant.
I have a personal hunch that God insured that the original documents of Scripture were lost just so we couldn't reasonably think that we had a perfect object, a perfect book in our hands.
What God wants is us to believe what He said.
If you don't have a perfect Bible, then you get to decide on what is correct or incorrect.
He WANTS US, INSISTS, that we go to HIM, learn to hear HIS VOICE to get our more specific daily directions. Carrying around a flawless book would make it even more of an idol than the KJV has become anyway.
And we learn what He wants from His Book.
A perfect God is capable of giving us a perfect Book.
. . . . .
People are free to read his book and make up their own minds.
Warren is only one of many who are preaching a watered down message.
It is tedius and worthless to debate it.
I agree, since there are no errors in the King James text.
Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof, from such turn away
Those who reject the King James have a form of godliness but are denying the power thereof.
If anyone else wants to point out the several serious fallacies in your KJV statements, they are welcome.
The KJV has plenty of errors every bit as significant as those ascribed to the better modern paraphras oriented translations.
I do hope you know that even the KJV has an abundance of paraphrases in it.
