The 1962 Missal Epistle and Gospel for the 8th Sunday after Pentecost

EPISTLE Brethren: We are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh; for if you live according to the flesh, you shall die; but if by the spirit you mortify the deeds of the flesh, you shall live. For, whosoever are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. For you have not received the spirit of bondage again in fear, but you have received the spirit of adoption of sons, whereby we cry: Abba (Father). For the Spirit Himself giveth testimony to our spirit, that we are the sons of God; and if sons, heirs also; heirs indeed of God, and joint heirs with Christ |

GOSPEL At that time: Jesus spoke to His disciples this parable: There was a certain rich man who had a steward; and the same was accused unto him that he had wasted his goods; and he called him, and said to him: How is it that I hear this of thee? Give an account of thy stewardship, for now thou canst be steward no longer. And the steward said within himself: What shall I do, because my lord taketh away from me the stewardship? To dig I am not able: to beg I am ashamed. I know what I will do, that when I shall be removed from the stewardship they may receive me into their houses. Therefore calling together every one of his lord's debtors, he said to the first: How much dost thou owe my lord? But he said: A hundred barrels of oil. And he said to him: Take thy bill, and sit down quickly, and write fifty. Then he said to another: And how much dost thou owe? Who said: A hundred quarters of wheat. He said to him: Take thy bill, and write eighty. And the lord commended the unjust steward, for as much as he had done wisely; for the children of this world are wiser in their generation than the children of light. And I say to you: Make unto you friends of the mammon of iniquity, that when you shall fail, they may receive you into everlasting dwellings.

I attended an a Society of Saint Pius X High Mass in Roswell Georgia today, it was the most beautiful mass ever. There were 9 altar boys and a choir that sang and chanted like angels. To call it glorious would be a drastic understatement.
If anyone else comes to mind ping them over.
The young energetic priest gave an outstanding homily on this scriptural subject matter today. Also his Latin during the liturgy was clear and exquisite. Anyone near Roswell MUST check out the chapel there.
That sounds fantastic! Wish I could attend.
Hope you are doing okay.
Ping for AAABEST who is away from his computer.
(ping list for traditional Catholic issues--freepmail if you want on or off)
When we do what's right and Godly by witnessing to the sinful by word and deed, they become the fruits of our works and advocates for our eventual judgement.
Chirst often said it was wise to go amongst those who needed the Word the most. The statement that the children of this world are wiser in their generation seems to be just a simple fact, an observation more than any great revelation. It's not that the children of this world are wiser in spiritual and supernatural matters, just wiser in their worldly generation.
For example, a converted tax collector would make a better converter of tax collectors than a non-tax collector simply because he's wise to the ways of tax collectors. He's one of them so to speak, he's "been there done that".
AAA,
could you give us a summary of the homily? I have always wanted to hear a good exegesis on that particular Gospel.
We are to make "friends" of the sinful as to good for them and bring them to God. This not only does right by them and God, but it benefits us as well. When we make the worldly more Godly they become advocates to those who they were once like and as potential saints they become advocates for us at the time our judgement.
We will be very much held accountable so causing God's grace to be spread amongst sinners is not only good works, but potentially creates saints who will one day pray and advocate for us.
I found these passages perplexing at times, but now I'm kind of like "well duuuuhh". Jesus himself went amongst the sinners and tax collectors, angering the pharisees. Of course this is what we should do.
That makes sense to me. It's a good interpretation.
Sounds glorious and is probably just what the Poster who posted it needed, considering the situation with his Dad. Prayers for him, his Dad, and Thanks be to God for High, Solemn Mass.
Also, would you mind adding me to your ping list?
Sure thing!
Hasn't the chapel in Roswell, Georgia only recently been completed?
That's another thing I love about the SSPX: while the rest of the Church is busy tearing down everything from cathedrals to chapels, the SSPX is hard at work building more up. Of course, their principle task of raising souls to Christ in these treacherous times is even more appreciated.
The SSPX ought to link up with these guys!

No it doesn't sound "off" in the least, I'm on the same page as you in that I believe this is part of what He was telling us.
It's funny how a single sentence can be so rich. At times it seems as if every small lesson He uttered was only a small tip of an infinite iceberg.
They must be planning additional construction because they were taking a second collection for a "building" fund. I'm not familiar enough with them to know what that meant.
What I do know that their children were beautiful and well behaved, their altar was stunning, their bookstore was in "cha-ching" mode and with 9 altar boys (just serving that mass) I don't see a problem with vocations.
It was a very much needed uplifting experience.
They message being NOTHING was too good for our Messiah.
