Unity Launches `Office of Prayer Research' Linking Science, Faith

(RNS) Unity, an interdenominational organization known for its emphasis on prayer, has announced a new Office of Prayer Research that will be a resource to foster scientific research on the effects of prayer.

KEYWORDS: faith; healing; interdenominational; newthought; prayer; research; science; unity
This sounds like a very interesting project. Bringing a scientific undergirding to the effects of prayer will simply strengthen the viewpoint that prayer can heal and change your experience of reality.

You might get interesting results Googling "Unity" and "cult".

Unity is not a cult. It is a church.

If you think it's a cult, you and I have a different definition of "cult." I am quite aware of Unity's work and I know that it is not one.

some folks define "cult" as a religion with which they disagree.

My apologies. You are correct that it isn't a cult. The point I wanted to make is that Unity doesn't happen to be a Christian church, by mainstream (Evangelical or Catholic) definitions.

Unity is not a mainstream Christian church, but the Unity School of Christianity and the other denominations of the New Thought movement, such as Religious Science, Divine Science, and the Universal Foundation for Better Living are churches following the teachings of Jesus, but not following the idea of Jesus as the Lord and Savior.

"The world hsa never followed the simple teachings of Jesus but it is loud in its proclamation that it is Chrisitan." -- Dr. Ernest Holmes, The Science of Mind
