Good Friday ping as we begin Day 1 of the Divine Mercy Novena. The following is from St. Faustina's Diary, written at the request of our Lord. (red text are words of Jesus to St. Faustina).

God's infinite Mercy

How to perform an act of Mercy
When I met the Lord I humbled myself and said, "Jesus, it seems that You do not associate intimately with such wretched people as I." Be at peace, My daughter, it is precisely through such misery that I want to show the power of My mercy. (133)
Renewal of vows. From the moment I woke up in the morning, my spirit was totally submerged in God, in that ocean of love. I felt that I had been completely immersed in Him. During Holy Mass, my love for Him reached a peak of intensity. After the renewal of vows and Holy Communion, I suddenly saw the Lord Jesus, who said to me with great kindness, My daughter, look at My merciful Heart. As I fixed my gaze upon the Most Sacred Heart, the same rays of light, as are represented in the image as blood and water, came forth from it, and I understood how great is the Lord's mercy. And again Jesus said to me with kindness, My daughter, speak to priests about this inconceivable mercy of Mine. The flames of mercy are burning Me - clamouring to be spent; I want to keep pouring them out upon souls; souls just don't want to believe in My goodness.  (177)
The next day, after Communion, I heard the voice saying, My daughter, look into the abyss of My mercy and give praise and glory to this mercy of Mine. Do it in this way: Gather all sinners from the entire world and immerse them in the abyss of My mercy. I want to give Myself to souls; I yearn for souls, My daughter. On the day of My feast, the Feast of Mercy, you will go through the whole world and bring fainting souls to the spring of My mercy. I shall heal them and strengthen them. (206)
I saw the abyss of my misery; whatever there is of good in me is Yours, O Lord. But because I am so small and wretched, I have a right to count on Your boundless mercy. (237)
And I will tell you one more thing: Take these graces not only for yourself, but also for others; that is, encourage the souls with whom you come in contact to trust in My infinite mercy. Of, how I love those souls who have complete confidence in Me. I will do everything for them. (294)
[St. Faustina at home] What also cost me a lot was that I had to kiss the children. The women I knew came with their children and asked me to take them in my arms, at least for a moment, and kiss them. They regarded this as a great favour, and for me it was a chance to practice virtue, since many of the children were quite dirty. But in order to overcome my feelings and show no repugnance, I would kiss such a dirty child twice. One of these friends came with a child whose eyes were diseased and filled with pus, and she said to me, "Sister, take it in your arms for a moment, please." My nature recoiled , but not paying attention to anything, I took the child and kissed it twice, right on the infection, asking God to heal it. (401)
For there are three ways of performing an act of mercy: the merciful word, by forgiving and by comforting; secondly, if you can offer no word, then pray - that too is mercy; and thirdly, deeds of mercy. And when the Last Day comes, we shall be judged from this, and on this basis we shall receive the eternal verdict. (1158)

This morning after completing my spiritual exercises, I began at once to crochet. I sensed a stillness in my heart; I sensed that Jesus was resting in it. That deep and sweet consciousness of God's presence prompted me to say to the Lord, "O Most Holy Trinity dwelling in my heart, I beg you: grant the grace of conversion to as many souls as the stitches that I make today with this crochet hook." Then I heard these words in my soul: My daughter, too great are your demands. "Jesus, You know that for You it is easier to grant much rather than a little." That is so, it is less difficult for Me to grant a soul much rather than a little, but every conversion of a sinful soul demands sacrifice." Well, Jesus, I offer You this whole-hearted work of mind; this offering does not seem to me to be too small for such a large number of souls; You know, Jesus, that for thirty years You were saving souls by just this kind of work. And since holy obedience forbids me to perform great penances and mortifications, therefore I ask You, Lord: accept these mere nothings stamped with the seal of obedience as great things." Then I heard a voice in my soul: My dear daughter, I comply with your request.

..write this for many souls who are often worried because they do not have the material means with which to carry out an act of mercy. Yet spiritual mercy, which requires neither permissions or storehouses, is much more meritorious and is within the grasp of every soul. If a soul does not exercise mercy somehow or other, it will not obtain My mercy on the day of judgment. . Oh, if only souls knew how to gather eternal treasures for themselves, they would not be judged, for they would forestall My judgement with their mercy. (1317)

Jesus' Speaks about Mercy

I desire that priests proclaim this great mercy of Mine towards souls of sinners. Let the sinner not be afraid to approach Me. The flames of mercy are burning Me - clamouring to be spent; I want to pour them out upon these souls....Distrust on the part of souls is tearing at My insides. The distrust of a chosen soul causes Me even greater pain; despite My inexhaustible love for them they do not trust Me. Even my death is not enough for them. Woe to the soul that abuses these [gifts]. (50)
And even if the sins of soul are as dark as night, when the sinner turns to My mercy he gives Me the greatest praise and is the glory of My Passion. (378)

My daughter, do you think you have written enough about My mercy? What you have written is but a drop compared to the ocean. I am Love and Mercy itself. There is no misery that could be a match for My mercy, neither will misery exhaust it, because as it is being granted - it increases. The soul that trusts in My mercy is most fortunate, because I myself take care of it. (1273)

Write, speak of My mercy. Tell souls where they are to look for solace; that is, in the Tribunal of Mercy. There the greatest miracles take place [and] are incessantly repeated. To avail oneself of this miracle, it is not necessary to go on a great pilgrimage or to carry out some external ceremony; it suffices to come with faith to the feet of My representative and to reveal to him one's misery, and the miracle of Divine Mercy will be fully demonstrated. Were a soul like a decaying corpse so that from a human standpoint, there would be no [hope of ] restoration and everything would already be lost, it is not so with God. The miracle of Divine Mercy restores that soul in full. Oh, how miserable are those who do not take advantage of the miracle of God's mercy! You will call out in vain, but it will be too late. (1448)

When the sisters got up at eleven o'clock at night to keep vigil and welcome the New Year, I had been writhing in agony since nightfall, and this lasted until midnight. I united my sufferings with the prayers of the sisters who were keeping vigil in the chapel and atoning to God for the offences of sinners. (1451). When the clock struck twelve, my soul immersed itself more deeply in recollection, and I heard a voice in my soul: "Do not fear, My little child, you are not alone. Fight bravely, because My arm is supporting you; fight for the salvation of souls, exhorting them to trust in My mercy, as that is your task in this life and in the life to come." After these words, I received a deeper understanding of divine mercy. Only that soul who wants [to be damned] will be damned, for God condemns no one. (1452)

Have confidence, My child. Do not lose heart in coming for pardon, for I am always ready to forgive you. As often as you beg for it, you glorify My mercy. (Jesus to souls striving for perfection and holiness - 1488)

My daughter, do not tire of proclaiming My mercy. In this way you will refresh this Heart of Mine, which burns with a flame of pity for sinners. Tell My priests that hardened sinners will repent on hearing their words when they speak about My unfathomable mercy, about the compassion I have for them in My Heart. To priests who proclaim and extol My mercy, I will give wondrous power; I will anoint their words and touch the hearts of those to whom they speak. (1521)

Tell them that no soul that has called upon My mercy has been disappointed or brought to shame. I delight particularly in a soul which has placed its trust in My goodness. (1541)

Know, My daughter, that between Me and you there is a bottomless abyss, an abyss which separates the Creator from the creature. But this abyss is filled with My mercy. (1576)

Let souls who are striving for perfection particularly adore My mercy, because the abundance of graces which I grant them flows from My mercy. I desire that these souls distinguish themselves by boundless trust in My mercy. I myself will attend to the sanctification of such souls. I will provide them with everything they will need to attain sanctity. (1578)

Today I heard the words: In the Old Covenant I sent prophets wielding thunderbolts to My people. Today I am sending you with My mercy to the people of the whole world. I do not want to punish aching mankind, but I desire to heal it, pressing it to My merciful Heart. I use punishment when they themselves force Me to do so; My hand is reluctant to take hold of the sword of justice. Before the Day of Justice I am sending the Day of Mercy. (1588)

I often communicate with persons who are dying and obtain the divine mercy for them. Oh, how great is the goodness of God, greater than we can understand. There are moments and there are mysteries of the divine mercy over which the heavens are astounded. Let our judgment of souls cease, for God's mercy upon them is extraordinary. (1684)

The Catholic support is wonderful at FR.

This Lent and Holy Week have been a special one for me as I’ve come back into the Church in a deeper and fuller way. My 11 year old son accompanied me to Holy Thursday Mass and Adoration last night.

I told him the sweet and funny story of him being about 5 years old at Mass. Father was talking about the gift of the Eucharist during the Homily and stressed that this simple bread, really being Christ, is offering us everlasting life.
My nearly 5 year old turns to me and says, “Dad is that true?”...I replied yes of course, and he replied, “I gotta get some of that bread”.

Thank you for sharing that with us! Converts and reverts are the best Catholics :-). They have struggled with the faith and made a conscientious decision to be Catholic. In so doing, they often read and research more and begin to introduce their faith on a greater scale, into the home. Welcome back!

My nearly 5 year old turns to me and says, “Dad is that true?”...I replied yes of course, and he replied, “I gotta get some of that bread”.

There, you have just proven my point!

Speaking of children, our Church was packed with children last night for Holy Thursday. Though Roman Catholic, I practice my faith in the Maronite Catholic Church. It is a 'teaching' Church and long ago adopted the practice of washing the feet of children as opposed to adult males. The reasoning behind this is twofold. First off, the children bring the parents - who are so proud to see their children participate in this liturgy. The second reason is that children are like tape recorders - whatever you feed into them, they register forever. The Maronite Church is one of the Eastern Catholic Churches and has its See in Lebanon. Due to the persecution of christians and the various wars in Lebanon during the past century, many of the Maronite Catholics have fled for other parts of the world. Amongst the new families in our parish is a Lebanese couple with 3 small children. The two pre-school boys were curious to see what was going on with the 12 children and the priest so they snuck up for a closer view. They were soon followed by a 3 year old girl who also wanted front seat viewing :-).

It is not uncommon in the middle east for Maronites and Orthodox to inter-marry. The Church was packed again tonight with this blend of Maronite husbands and their Syrian Orthodox wives. The Orthodox Church will celebrate Holy Week in April but tonight, the wives accompanied their Maronite husbands and children to our Church to join their voices in the beautiful hymns, some of which are common to both Churches. The same phenomena will occur in April when the Maronite husbands accompany their wives to the Orthodox celebrations of Holy Week. I pray that some day our Churches will be united so we can all celebrate together at the same time. Until then, it was so beautiful to hear their voices as we chanted the hymns of Good Friday, some of which are in Arabic.

May our Lord continue to strengthen you in the faith and may your children be enriched by His graces. A Blessed Easter to you and all your family!

I’m glad that they started it at my church on Good Friday, right after the Stations of the Cross.

I love this thread. It is like an old friend we visit with every year, yet there is always something new to discover.

People were lined up out the door on Good Friday as we prayed the Divine Mercy Novena. We will conclude with a special mass on Divine Mercy Sunday. I have witnessed His immense mercy during this Holy Week at my church; I can not even imagine what great mercy He has in store for all of us sinners as we pray the novena during the next week.
