Perhaps someone on the RELIGION forum can help us.
On tonight's Drudge thread there is some question as to the propriety of a ROMAN CATHOLIC taking communion in a NON-Catholic church.
See, for instance, my post 321:
To: tgslTakoma
The AP and Reuters stories said that he did take communion. Kerry attended Palm Sunday services, but not at a Catholic Church; he went to the Charles Street AME Church in Boston to take Communion. (It's been a very long time since my Catholic school religion classes, but I seem to remember that it's a big no-no for a Catholic to take Communion in other than a Catholic church. Maybe that rule has changed...)

It's definitely a no no. Catholics can attend noncatholic services, but are forbidden to participate in any sacraments therein.

In another article I read earlier today, Kerry's campaign has staffers who check out Catholic churches in advance of his attendance; they don't want any photos of Kerry being refused Communion by a priest. So, for campaign purposes, for Kerry's "Communion photo ops," he has to go to a church other than the one he professes to be a devout member of.

"People in Rome are becoming more and more aware there's a problem with John Kerry," a Vatican official an American told Time Magazine this week, "and a potential scandal with his apparent profession of his Catholic faith and some of his stances, particularly abortion."
When John Kerry attended Mass during his skiing-snowboarding-upbraiding-the secret-service-agent-falling-down-repeatedly vacation, and then jetted off to make a rare appearance in the United States Senate to vote against a bill defining an unborn child as, well, an unborn child, devout Catholics across the country noticed.
Now we learn from Time magazine that Kerry's avowed Catholicism is eliciting rebukes from Catholic officials, and not just those in faraway Italy.
"When Kerry campaigned in Missouri in February," Time also reported, "St. Louis Archbishop Raymond Burke publicly warned him 'not to present himself for Communion' an ostracism that Canon Law 915 reserves for 'those who obstinately persist in manifest grave sin.'"

I am not a Catholic either Ron, but is there any democrat who runs for any office who doesn't stop by a AME Church?
I am sure some Catholics will be here soon to say one way or another if this is permissible, but I am inclined to say it isn't in their Church.

No.
To partake of another denomination's communion is to claim that that denomination is one in faith, doctrine and unity with the Catholic Church, which the AME is not.
The AME has no apostolic orders, hence no sacramental priesthood; its ministers could not confect a sacramentally valid Eucharist, nor do they recognize the doctrine of transubstantion.

This is startling, to say the least. Surely the church cannot stand by and be silent about this. They will try to be real pc and all, but they are almost going to have to say something.

When my parish 'cohosted' services with Lutherans, I left. This is a major breach of Catholicism's rules. JF Kerry has committed an act of schism, if not apostacy. The question is, what will Rome do?

I'm not sure they should. Kerry's bishop already told him he shouldn't dare take communion in a Catholic church. Maybe he is actually listening, or maybe he just fears the confrontation. Regardless, if he has stopped using Catholic Churches for photo ops, I consider that a good thing. He's started going to more and more non catholic churches on Sundays. If its a schism, we wish him the best of luck and sayonara.
I'm just tickled to see him go elsewhere. Makes it clear how uncatholic he is.
As to the original question on this page, no, a Catholic cannot recieve communion in a non-Catholic Church. Only exception I know if is in an Orthodox Church under very limited circumstances (you can't find a Catholic Church).

Nothing, what should it do? It's supposed to comment everytime an unfaithful politician leaves its ranks? Turn off the "Rome is failing us" bias for a second and think about it.
The time to talk is when he is running around claiming to be Catholic. His Bishop has already addressed that issue, for Kerry and for all pro-aborts in that diocese.

Besides the ones meted out by God in the end? Nothing, what should the Church do if you leave it? It's your free will.
If you want to return, confession is a must, of course, but its not like they are sitting over your shoulder making sure you do everything (even for a public figure like JKerry). Your salvation is your responsibility. They will tell you what you should do, but they don't punish you when you decide to ignore them.
