The anti-Catholicism of the "National Catholic Reporter"

In my opinion, the NCR (different from the National Catholic Register and from the Catholic World Report) appears to be classic type of a wolf in sheep's clothing. It is the most anti-Catholic weekly publication that I know, and yet it continues pretending to be "Catholic." The evidence of NCR's anti-Catholic and anti-Christian agenda is somewhat camouflaged, so let it be dug up and brought to daylight in this thread.

- Why, and who cares? Under normal circumstances I couldn't care less, but very many American priests and religious read the NCR, and it has poisonously influenced a generation or two of priests. When we see the sorry state of affairs in our Church we should know, for our own protection, where the devil dwells. Many screwy things (most of all the disdain for the Teaching Magisterium) originated and/or have been, or continue to be, sponsored by the NCR.

There is only one FReeper, as far as I know, vigorously defending the NCR, so he is rare and dear - let's be respectful to him.

Robert Hoyt, NCR founder, dies at 81

In April 1967, NCR attracted national and international attention when it published the secret reports of the majority of a special commission appointed by Pope Paul VI to review the church’s teaching that forbids the use of artificial means of contraception. The majority of the commission recommended revisions in the teaching. However, a year later, the pope rejected those recommendations and issued Humanae Vitae, commonly known as the birth control encyclical, which upheld traditional teaching.
Publication of the secret report was seen as scandalous in some circles and the action was among the reasons Bishop Charles H. Helmsing of Kansas City, Mo., who originally had encouraged the development of the paper, issued a condemnation of NCR and demanded that it remove the word Catholic from its name.
The paper largely ignored the condemnation. The Catholic Press Association said in a statement that the dispute arose out of a difference of opinion regarding the function of the press, while dozens of Catholic editors signed a statement disagreeing with the condemnation based on its “underlying definition of the legitimate boundaries of religious journalism in service to the church.”
Those boundaries are still in dispute, or at least in flux, in some areas of Catholic journalism. But Hoyt and others were acting on an understanding of the role of the press as expressed in a talk given earlier by noted Jesuit theologian Fr. John Courtney Murray during a Rome symposium sponsored by the International Union of the Catholic Press.

Somebody posted a list of people who have been 'disciplined' by the Church for what amounts to "errorneous" theology.

One of them is very interesting, his name is Ernesto Cardenal. He's the white haired priest, than on the Pope's arrival to Nicaragua, the John Paul II publicly admonished him. There's a very interesting video of this I saw on the news recently, but can't find it.

Anyways, this guy was part of the Sandinista government, he was the "Minister of Culture". I saw a video of him reciting quotes from one of his poems, very boring stuff. It was called "Cantico Cosmico" (Cosmic song) and it's this very bizarre "poem" about the big bang and quantum physics and theology. Sounds very similar to this article, incredible!

Very true -especially now. The Church is now center on the world stage with the passing of Pope John Paul II. On this tremendous opportunity to evangelize and expose the hungry masses to the truth and beauty comprising the deposit of faith that many crave yet may be unaware of there is still the evil underbelly pushing its selfish perversion upon His pulpit and His blood.

I am disgusted by the dissenting and heretical prelates and laity that scramble like roaches attempting to pervert the message of His truth with the message of selfishness and of man...
