I attended Mass last night with Cardinal George at Holy Name Cathedral. It was a Mass for College Students, and his homily was anything but cushy. He seemed really fired up coming from Burke's Installation. He argued that Freedom of Conscience is not the same of Freedom of Belief. That one can belief whatever you want, but that does not make it right, rather you have Freedom to form your Conscience Correctly, and to form our Conscience correctly we look at the Truth of the Church as handed down for the last 2000 years from Christ and His Apostles. It was a wonderful homily. He challenged us to form our consciences rightly, to act rightly and to live it. Really powerful homily.

Methinks Bishop Burke and the Episcopalian guy aren't going to get along.

In his half-hour homily, Burke urged Catholics to place an image of Jesus with his exposed heart in their homes and their workplaces, and to attend daily Mass and make frequent visits to the Eucharist in area parishes. The best advice I have heard in years! God Bless Bishop Burke!

"It's wonderful i'm so glad our father sent us such a wonderful Archbishop, we couldn't have asked for better." said Mary Brende, of St. Louis. Brende was attending the Celebration of the Installation of Archbishop Raymond Leo Burke at the Cathedral Basilica Of Saint Louis Monday afternoon.

Raymond Burke, Archbishop of St. Louis, leaves the pulpit after delivering his homily during mass for his installation Monday at the Cathedral Basilica.

"To reflect the heritage of St. Louis Catholics, in addition to Latin and English, prayers were offered in French, Spanish, German, Italian, Polish, Vietnamese and Tagalog."
Woke up at midnight and watched the replay of the mass. There were some touching moments. One of the young cousins who brought up the gifts, flung himself into Burke's arms, and gave him a big hug!
The bell choir performed the Agnus Dei . In fact, all of the music was beautifully performed but that was the most inspirational.

It was a wonderful homily. He challenged us to form our consciences rightly, to act rightly and to live it. Really powerful homily. Burke is a leader! He seemed a bit nervous ... who wouldn't be in that position? But he used his own Installation Mass to set the tone for how he will shepherd this diocese. As the camera panned the priests in attendance, you could get a sense of where some of these prelates stood on various issues.
Glad to hear that his inspiration is spreading!

In Wisconsin, Burke told priests to refuse Communion to Catholic state legislators I noticed one person yesterday, approach for communion, cross their arms over their chest, bow their head and leave without receiving.

Only one improvement...homilies should not exceed seven minutes. After that you start to lose audience. Vaudeville producers knew this. The Gettysburg address will live forever. Will anyone want to remember any of President Clinton's SOTU speeches?

I am happy for St. Louis. They are very fortunate. I hope and pray the rest of the country follows his lead.

I think the "Episcopalian guy" has nerve, considering how authoritarian the ECUSA has lately shown itself to be when confronted by dissenters on the consecration of an openly gay bishop.

The leader of Eastern Missouri's 14,000 Episcopalians was not impressed. "(Burke) really tried to persuade people with his moral teaching but he will find that Missourians don't take kindly to being told what to think and what to do," said Bishop G. Wayne Smith, leader of the Episcopal diocese. I take it Bishop Smith is not a conservative Episcopalian.

I take it Bishop Smith is not a conservative Episcopalian. I think that's a safe bet. ahadams2 probably knows him, though I don't think he's in that diocese.

I'm going to put that picture on my computer screen at work. Thanks.

BTW, that's the most beautiful chasuble I've seen a (Roman) catholic wear in a long time. I hope it's a trend. Many of the ecclesiastical fashions of recent years have been positively awful.

**About a half hour after the former bishop of La Crosse, Wis., was installed, Burke called on St. Louis Catholics to strengthen their faith through devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
Amen! Amen!

I noticed one person yesterday, approach for communion, cross their arms over their chest, bow their head and leave without receiving. Likely a catechumen. All of our catechumens go up for a blessing every Sunday, and cross their hands over their chest to let the priest know they are there for a blessing.

Well, you know how that stuff works...the dissenters are very upset when they are called on their dissent, but when they are the ones calling the shots, they tolerate no deviation whatever from their official line.
