Read it more closely, xzins.

The "quickening ray", chains falling off and heart being freed all happened before he "rose and followed Thee".

If this was singing about the glories of Prevenient Grace, it would be the following order:

1. Quickening Ray
2. Rose and Followed Thee
3. Chains falling off
4. Heart being freed

Of course, that wouldn't be very Biblical, now, would it?

This thread is providential. I have had it with the icky praise and worship songs (there are some praise and worship I like, for the record....and that really can movement) played during the SUnday evening chapel here. I am trying to find a list of great songs with a lot of depth, so this is cool.

Here is one song I located that is very strongly Calvinist...:)

According to Arminian theology, is one's heart freed (regenerated) before or after one "rises to follow Thee"? Or after?

Furthermore, according to Arminian theology is "Prevenient Grace" rightly called a "quickening" ray?

To "quicken"...

Ephesians 2
1 And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins

...means to bring to life from a state of death.

By defintion, this is not the same thing as "Prevenient Grace".

All this is said to happen before we "rise up and follow Thee". That is backwards from Arminian theology.

drsteve is not requesting that you leave the thread. He's asking for singers of anthropocentric songs to post their own thread. I think drsteve would welcome you with open arms if you followed his request to post only songs that "proclaim a sovereign God whose grace is un-leveraged."

If you would like, just re-post the obviously Calvinist hymn "And Can It Be", and you'll be fine.

Charles wrote "And Can it Be" in 1738. Some nine years later he wrote the following:

John and Charles were singing from the same hymnal. But feel free to borrow it.
