Should we love the devil? Yes!

TEEN Question: God calls us to love everyone. Should we love the devil?
Father J's Answer: Short answer... Yes!
Longer answer... it's still Yes, but a few Scripture passages that might be helpful to pray about. My command to you is: Love your enemies, pray for your persecutors. This will prove that you are children of your heavenly Father, for His son rises on the bad and the good, he reigns on the just and the unjust (The Gospel of Matthew 5:44-45). And then there is, Love your enemy and do good. Lend without expecting repayments. Then your recompense will be great. You will rightly be called children of the Most High, since He himself is good to the ungrateful and the wicked (The Gospel of Luke 6:35-36). So, yes, you do have to love Satan. He may be the ultimate enemy, but God still loves him, even though he doesnt love God. And so we must have pity and love him as well.
Now that doesnt mean we want to be hanging out with him, spending quality time, talking long walks together, and try to get to know him better. No, you want to stay as far away from his evil as possible. But if we hated him, then were just be more like him. And lets all try to be like our Father instead, always trying to live in the spirit of love.
I hope this helps and Ill be praying for you.
Peace, Fr. J

Matthew 4: 8-10:
Again the devil took him up into a very high mountain, and shewed him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them,
And said to him: All these will I give thee, if falling down thou wilt adore me.
Then Jesus saith to him: Begone, Satan: for it is written, The Lord thy God shalt thou adore, and him only shalt thou serve.

There is nothing to love about Satan. You can love your enemies because they have the chance to be redeemed and serve God, but Satan is unredeemable and will only respond with destruction and murder. Let's get a grip here.

Someone's been snooping around www.novusordowatch.org again. It's a riot to see this posted here, as I was checking out Fr. J's online correspondences last night and was about to send this one to friends until I realized they might not get the joke. "Isn't it a spiritual work of mercy to pray for the damned?" Peace, brother, peace.

Surely you pray for the conversion of egregious sinners. That is all that is being said here. Once again, you are practicing intentional distortion and lack of charity to faithful orthodox Catholics in bad faith.

Nope, God created enmity in our hearts towards Satan after the fall. Part of the consequence for taking the risk of deceiving mankind.
It's nachural, baby!

Aw, man... wierd post.
Um, God created/tolerates Satan.
So, it's good that Satan exists, and we should recognize that God works his will even through that dupe, Satan, and we should be glad to God for doing what he does through Satan.
Does that mean we "love" Satan?
I can only give the 1 Cor 12 test of what love is.
"Love is Patient." Should we be patient with Satan? No.
and so on and son on.
So, I say, "no," we should not love Satan.
I think "Fr. J" makes his point in a very misworded way.

Come to think of it, there can be a lengthy discussion about definitions whether one should say that God "created" Satan.

Of course God created Satan (Lucifer, the bringer of light), however Satan (then the most beautiful angel in heaven) rebelled against God. It was Satan's embrace of evil (which God did not create) which made him into the adversary/the devil.

... but which is the chief characteristic of Satan. That's all I meant by definition... God created Satan, but did not make Satan as we know him.

And it was the sin of pride that cast satan into the fire. satan thought he was the equal or better than God.

This is not the first time we've heard of sick novelties from Life Teen. What concerns me is that the group has any credibility and is allowed to teach our Catholic youth such nonsense.
