Press Release
Special Session Called in State Legislature
Speaker of the House, Johnnie Byrd to introduce Terris Bill
Clearwater, FL October 19, 2003: The Governor of Florida, Jeb Bush, has called a special session of the Florida Legislature for Monday, October 20, 2003. At that time, Floridas Speaker of the House will introduce Terris Bill. By Florida law, two thirds majority vote are required to have a topic entered.
Volunteers with the Terri Schindler-Schiavo Foundation have learned that Senate President, Jim King is against this bill.
The Bill would put an immediate moratorium on all dehydration and starvation deaths currently pending in Florida.
We have come to a time when the merchants of death have created a constitutional crisis and a justice gridlock, while the rightful life of Floridas disabled and vulnerable citizens tragically hang on Terri Schindler-Schiavos court ordered dehydration and starvation death.
We urge all concerned Floridians to contact their Senators and State House members to vote for Terris bill.
Time is short.

Yeah, baseball and Kobe are taking up a lot of space. My attitude is "who the heck cares about either?" Terri's situation is a matter of life and death, not to mention policy that could effect us all at some point. I mean, I don't make a habit of whining about threads that I get tired of seeing, but I can't help wondering why baseball threads don't get moved to chat.

Actually it looks like the special session had been called a couple weeks ago for another matter but he plans to use it to introduce Terri's Bill now too. (another poster said it had been called Oct 9 but i forget the issue it was called for)

Not from me. I am going to send something either way. He did a huge thing by putting this out there.

"How did you do that??? It just took me more than an hour to do each one! "
I made each one very short and right to the point. It's very unlikely that they will even read them all if they get very many of them so I made sure the subject said to pass Terri's bill.

You know, I am reminded of the parable of the unjust judge. I'm sure that there will be those in the Florida legislature that will not want to consider this bill, but they will recognize that their political career is on the line with many of their constituents, so while I would prefer that God would work in their hearts and they would pass it because it is the right thing to do, I don't think it really matters if they pass it because they are weary of all the phone calls and emails and faxes and fear angering the electorate if they don't.
Lord, we need a miracle for Terri.

They probably won't read them but I did send short ones.
I was mostly commenting on my backward ways, actually. :-)

Try calling Senator Alexander if you have time this morning.
850-487-5044
I just spoke with an aid and I am not sure Senator Alexander is with us. There was a great deal of hesitation. He was unable to tell me where the Senator stood on this issue.

CAN I SHOUT?????
Just got off the phone with King's Jacksonville office. The lady told me the special session was called to address budget issues and that Byrd may introduce Terri's Bill but that it will have no effect on Terri's situation...the Gov has no constitutional authority to intervene. I asked her if she had read the briefs herself---no. I gave her Terri's site and asked her to please read them herself. Told her noone who reads them believes the Gov can't do something.
She did say that if he can include the Bill he would.
I told her I would not vote for him again if he didn't!
CORRECT PHONE # FOR JIM KING IS 850-487-5229

The Senator does not yet have the wording of the legislation, and therefore cannot comment until he does .. according to one of the aids in his office. Left word that thousands on the internet were watching this legislation and wished it to be passed by the end of the day.

Just off the phone with King's office, tutstar ~ told the pleasant young lady that I was one of those internet junkies who was watching Terri's situation and would be looking for passage of Terri's Bill by the end of the day. Thanked me for calling but said that there hasn't been any legislation introduced, to which I replied: "There will be."
Keep at it, FReepers ... Terri is holding on and we can, too.

Pardon me for asking at this late hour of day (10:33 a.m.), why did we call Senators? Shouldn't it have been the House representatives?
