The struggle against narco-trafficking has to be linked with the fight against terrorism, White House drug czar John P. Walters has said.

"I believe that violence and terror are associated with drug trade," Mr. Walters said at a conference Thursday at the Center for Strategic & International Studies.

Yeah, like the Drug Czar (why do we have a position in our government with that for a title???) is going to say or do anything that will end his employment.

The WOD needs to have an organized resistance made up of ordinary people that have no ties to drugs in order to get the losers in Congress to pay attention.

Yes, I agree. Even we normal people with no ties to drugs have witnessed some of the the evils and abuses-without-excuses. And come to think of it, these abuses tend to quash criticism: if people fear the irrationality of the system, they are less likely to speak out against it. What a mess.

Shocking news! Well not really.
If you want/need money quickly and have no morals there's nothing better than selling dope.

As one who deals daily in the WOD (former prosecutor of 14 years, defense attorney of 9 years), I find Walters' remarks insulting. The link between oil and terrorism is a hundredfold stronger than any link between illegal drugs and terrorism. The same can be said for state sponsorship of terrorism than it can be for drug selling.

A little over a month ago Ashcroft approved a 7 year sentence for a Michigan man who plea bargained an aid to terrorism charge. Yet he has directed U.S. Attorneys to seek maximum charges in drug cases, do no fact bargaining and to report any downward departure sentencing decisions so as to pressure the formerly independent judiciary to fall in line with his zero tolerance view of sentencing.

I have seen twenty year old addict sellers get three times the sentence of this terrorist. Sickening.

The WOD is little more than an excuse to empower the imperial federal government and is a law enforcement welfare program; more federal agents, more prosecutors, more parole officers, more prisons, more prison guards; ad nauseum.

Sorry, not a Michigan case; Portland, Oregon. United States v. Maher Hawash.

Thanks for the fresh air of reality!

Perhaps Rush's troubles will lead to a re-examination of the WOD by thoughtful conservatives.

Or perhaps not - echoing slogans is so much easier than questioning Government.

"I believe that violence and terror are associated with drug trade," Mr. Walters said

Of course---drug criminalization makes the drug trade highly profitable.

Defund violence and terror---relegalize drugs!

Walters links drugs to terrorism

As a matter of fact, yes, he does.

Perhaps Rush's troubles will lead to a re-examination of the WOD by thoughtful conservatives.

But don't you see? Poor widdle Rush, who after all is a "victim" of all those mean pills that keep jumping into his mouth against his will, is nevertheless supporting terrorists, and therefore, IS a terrorist.

You're either with us or against us. ~ cartoon mantra du jour.

Maher Mofeid Hawash was charged with Conspiracy to Levy War Against the United States, Conspiracy to Provide Material Support and Resources to Foreign Terrorist Organizations, and Conspiracy to Contribute Services to Al-Qaida and the Taliban.

This John Walker wannabe and five of his anti-American scumbag friends, the month after 9/11, attempted to enter Afghanistan via China to kill American soldiers.

In a plea agreement, he agreed to 7-10 years in exchange for dropping the first two charges. Since Walker got 20 years, this seems appropriate.

Now, as a former prosecutor, how many drug dealers had you allowed to plea bargain their case to simple possession -- maybe they get probation.

"Sickening" works both ways.
