As one who deals daily in the WOD (former prosecutor of 14 years, defense attorney of 9 years), I find Walters' remarks insulting. The link between oil and terrorism is a hundredfold stronger than any link between illegal drugs and terrorism. The same can be said for state sponsorship of terrorism than it can be for drug selling.

A little over a month ago Ashcroft approved a 7 year sentence for a Michigan man who plea bargained an aid to terrorism charge. Yet he has directed U.S. Attorneys to seek maximum charges in drug cases, do no fact bargaining and to report any downward departure sentencing decisions so as to pressure the formerly independent judiciary to fall in line with his zero tolerance view of sentencing.

I have seen twenty year old addict sellers get three times the sentence of this terrorist. Sickening.

The WOD is little more than an excuse to empower the imperial federal government and is a law enforcement welfare program; more federal agents, more prosecutors, more parole officers, more prisons, more prison guards; ad nauseum.

Sorry, not a Michigan case; Portland, Oregon. United States v. Maher Hawash.

Thanks for the fresh air of reality!

Perhaps Rush's troubles will lead to a re-examination of the WOD by thoughtful conservatives.

Or perhaps not - echoing slogans is so much easier than questioning Government.

Maher Mofeid Hawash was charged with Conspiracy to Levy War Against the United States, Conspiracy to Provide Material Support and Resources to Foreign Terrorist Organizations, and Conspiracy to Contribute Services to Al-Qaida and the Taliban.

This John Walker wannabe and five of his anti-American scumbag friends, the month after 9/11, attempted to enter Afghanistan via China to kill American soldiers.

In a plea agreement, he agreed to 7-10 years in exchange for dropping the first two charges. Since Walker got 20 years, this seems appropriate.

Now, as a former prosecutor, how many drug dealers had you allowed to plea bargain their case to simple possession -- maybe they get probation.

"Sickening" works both ways.
