More than likely he had several doctors unaware of cross prescribing of each doctor.Perhaps---in which case he wasn't breaking the letter of the law but was slyly working the system.

This has nothing to do with the WOD. How absurd to try and bring that into this discussion.
There is a huge difference between the recreational use of drugs and being addicted to painkillers after a serious back injury. There is no justification for allowing recreational drugs.
Nor is Rush the victim of the WOD. He isn't going to be charged with a crime in all likelihood.

Thanks for the transcript, TC. Where'd you get it?

There is also a sort of combo of biology/personality who is easier addicted than others. For biology, look at the ravages "firewater" brought to the American Indian population. For personality or personal type of addiction, look to the depressed or disthymic or bipolar population. They are far more tempted to self-medicate than a person blessed with a stable neurology.
Since Rush had trouble with alcohol in his past, as well as depression, he will need to rely on things other than medication to keep him stable. It will require some creativity and willpower on his part.
If his drug abuse kept his weight down, he will also have a hard time there, as food might be the only thing left to indulge in. I don't think it will be easy, but in G-d all things are possible.

Just out of curiosity... how is Bennett even involved or remotely related?
#1) Nothing he did was illegal.
#2) Bennett speaks from the position of the Catholic Church. The Catholic Church has no ban on gambling, as long as he's not gambling to the point where it harms those dependent upon him, which he never did. Yeah, there may be Protestant sects who speak out against gambling... but that doesn't mean he's subject to their rules. He never condemned gambling. Far as I'm concerned, there was absolutely nothing even -remotely- hypocritical in any "moral high ground" Bennett staked out.
And quite frankly, the whole concept that speaking about morality requires you to be a paragon of virtue is ridiculous. I wish we could go back to the time when every prostitute, drug user and child molester would acknowledge what the moral high ground -is- rather than claim that what they do is okay.
"Hypocrisy is the tribute that vice pays to virtue." Well, now that hypocrisy has become the greatest of all sins, virtue gets no tribute at all. Give me back good old hypocrisy any day.

Who said anything about the War On Some Drugs? You pinged the WOD_list.
While saying nothing about the WOD. I pinged the list because I thought its readers would be interested---that's what ping lists are for.

I'd be interested in your response to post 222(jmc813's reply #420 You mean this typical DU reponse from a DU fan on post #222 of this thread, rightbanker.
But I do wonder why all this sympathy for rich, white, Republican junkie, and utter indifference to the plight of all those others caught up in our insane and inane drug laws?
Rush has admitted his problem and he needs our support and prayers, and like I said to you before when this story first broke, we are not Gods, like the Libertarian party members thin they are.
Once you realize that reality, maybe you won't be so damned smug, like Hillary.
