[history]
Students at the city's high school for gay kids ganged up to clobber a man after he taunted them, cops said. The free-for-all on Astor Place left the man injured and under arrest, along with three students from Harvey Milk HS.

The Daily News reports that these kids were messing with this guy's Lexus, and the whole thing has the flavor of a drug deal gone sour.

Frankly, the article seems to leave out a lot of information, perhaps because the various stories are still being sorted out by police. But I know NYC cops aren't going to file charges against anybody just for telling a bunch of kids that they're "behaving badly", and defending themselves if the kids respond by throwing bottles at the speaker's car with an infant inside. So I have to think the cops are buying at least part of the kids' story (maybe Mr. Jones has a history with the NYPD . . .). I expect it'll all get sorted out, since there's no way that there weren't any 3rd party witnesses -- NYC is a crowded place, and this was at a Starbucks in broad daylight.

Presumably, he engaged in mutual combat, so I don't have a problem with him being charged. I was just pointing out that the kids apparently started the actual violence by throwing the bottle.
I think this episode shows that this whole idea of a segregated "gay" high school was a bad one, and has failed to "protect" the students.

They probably ride "the short bus".

Actually I'm afraid this is pretty common behavior for NYC high school kids, and the kids who attend this school have already been identified as being in some kind of trouble in their previous schools.
A few months ago, a woman was seriously injured when walking on the sidewalk next to a regular Manhattan high school. Seems kids had thrown a chair out a window from an upper floor. Press reports quoted neighborhood residents as saying they always walked on the other side of the street, because it wasn't an uncommon occurrence for large objects to come flying out of the school's windows.
At least these gay kids aren't launching attacks on innocent and unsuspecting bystanders. Unfortunately, if they ever do, they'll likely only get a slap on the wrist, just like the hoodlums in the regular schools do. This tiny little gay high school has become a distraction for conservatives, much to the benefit of the shameless educrats who continue to run the schools attended by hundreds of thousands of NYC kids the way they've run them for decades.

Well, nothing that goes on in government schools surprises me much anymore.
I think the only solution is separation of school and state.

You won't get any argument from me on that.

Cops said Jones told the kids the way they were behaving "reflected poorly" on other black kids, but didn't specify if this was a gay slur. When I stop spinning, I might be able to comprend that sentence.

The local high school in my Brooklyn neighborhood has expanded from 4,200 to 5,100, 98% of whom look like they just came out of Ossining (the boys) or Bedford (the girls). When school breaks out, they wreak havoc all over the place. Thankfully, I am at work when this happens.
