Mike Walker on the Al Rantel Show: "If We're Wrong, Rush Could Own Us"

Mike Walker of the National Enquirer has been on the Al Rantel show for the past two hours discussing the story which his paper broke about Rush Limbaugh's dependence on prescription drugs, obtained illegally through his housekeeper. As Mike said, if this story was erroneous, Rush could sue them out of business. The National Enquirer did all kinds of checking before going with this story. He said they only paid for the story from the housekeeper after she had already gone to the police with her story and evidence.

But the most upsetting thing Mike Walker and Al discussed is the possibility that oxicontin (?) causes deafness and that Rush may have caused his own deafness by taking up to 30 or so pills a day. That is a horrible thought.

My wish is that Rush gets on the radio, comes clean about his addiction, and gets the help he needs. The longer he waits to do this, the worse it will be for him, in all sorts of ways. The police are apparently more interested in busting dealers than users in this sort of situation, but the housekeeper and her husband received immunity with their statements to the police. The claim is that Rush also was receiving UPS deliveries of pills from another source. Whatever the case, he should come clean.

When was his mother diagnosed with cancer? It seems like it was around 1999 but I can't remember. Maybe he was going through the pain of watching a parent die.

Given the general incompetence of the prosecutor's office, NOBODY guilty or innocent should put ANY faith in their doing the right thing. I do hope that there will be an effort to subpoena phone records of who called whom.

You may have officers who have a napolion complex to "go after" rush.

The fact that the enquirer had to BUY the story makes it suspect. Why could they not go with the sources that verified its existence? If the prosecutor's office REALLY was going after Rush they would have had him back in May/June when the arrests were made.

The story stinks, the facts must be pathetic if they believe they even have a case.

Have they subpeanaed Rush's computer?
Have they released the audio tapes?
Have they cleared up whether it was her obtaining drugs for rush on tape or was rush there too?

The goal is not to get rush in jail. The goal is to chip his credibility in order to neutralize him as a factor in 2004.

I talke to a ear,through,nose doctor. He said drug addition defness is RARE and NOT sudden as rush's. His opinion was that it would have been gradual and he would have been a lifetime of abuse.

Until Rush is required to raise his right hand, there is nothing here. Remember the BEST that the prosecutors office can achieve against Rush is a dismissal due to FL drug court first offender system. So even if they prosecute, the case still goes away as if it never existed.

I know a little bit about Oxycontin. I am fairly certain, if he was taking that many, even the 10mg, he would be either dead or at the very least, hospitalized. No way could he do a show.

I also think ,if he had been to detox twice, someone would have told before now. Rush has alot of enemies, along with alot of friends. Any liberal that worked at the detox place would have immediately told. It all sounds way to far fetched to me.

I distinctly remeber Rush commenting on his health some times over the last few years...he'd say his arm had a pain that day, from golf or something, or that he felt "an energy drop" on a particular day. But these were rare statements, not from someone who is on alleged high doses of pain killers for chronic pain.

With all due respect, Rush Limbaugh does not fit the profile of an addict. I have known the administrator of a drug rehab center. I have taken former addicts into my home (when I was single) and had them as room mates. I saw them battling their addictions even after they were clean. I have worked with AA members and sat in numerous meetings with them. I have listened to "Clancy", the head of the midnight mission in Los Angeles speaking on his addiction and why he was an addict- and how he recovered. I have been in rooms in AA meetings that had over 500 recovering addicts attending. Rush Limbaugh does not look or sound to me like an addict that is taking up to 30 pills a day.

If he was an addict, he would not be able to fulfill his obligations to his job, his marriage, or to anyone else. There is no way he could keep up that large of a charade for so long.

The ingesting of drugs not only impairs perception and judgement, but physical health. The addict also is attracted to other addictions as well. It doesn't stop with the pills, it goes with booze, prostitutes, gambling, or other combined addictions.

It is impossible for me to concieve of an addict who could have the mental acuity to do what Rush Limbaugh does on his show, or keep his schedule. In our world, anything could be possible, but this seems highly improbable to me.

I had to take oxycontin and hydrocodone a couple of years ago after surgery. I took 4 to 6 a day and I was drowsy, had slurred speech and in no condition to even read a book. There is no way I could have talked on the radio for 3 hours without the whole country thinking I was drunk at the very least. Nor, could I have done ANY of the prep necessary to do a show like Rush does every day.

I think Rush is innocent.

I had gall bladder-liver surgery. I busted my left eye like a grape resulting in 1 regular and 4 laser surgeries. I've spent 18 years doing various types of carpenter work-construction, and have had several minor injuries such as 3 nails going in my knee. While using an air staple gun, one prong of an 1 1/2" staple hit a knot and came out of the top of the wood right through the middle of my middle finger. And then there's my dirt bike accident.

Point being, I have at one time or another, taken the following pain medicine; liquid demerol and morphine, lortab, vicodin, darvocet, percodan, tylox, tylenol 3 and 4, and oxycontin. By far, oxycontin is the most potent pain killer in a pill form I have ever taken.

Under existing Florida statutes any audiotapes the woman made are 100% illegal and a criminal felony.

Tape possession, listening, duplication, transferring by even a Florida state prosecutor is 100% illegal and is tainted and unusable in any court hearing or trial and subjects the Prosecutor to criminal and civil actions.

Tappe possession, listening, duplication, transferring by the National Enquirer is 100% illegal and subjects the Enquirer to criminal and civil actions.

In Connecticut this is a Class D criminal felony with a sentence of 5 years in prison.

Florida is a 2-party taping state; requires the "tapee" to give 100% permission before stealth tape recording.
