ProLifers Celebrate Recall Statement of Brian Johnston, Executive Director of the California ProLife Council
Tom McClintcok put it well, "this is a great day for California." Gray Davis was the most ardently pro-abortion elected official to ever hold public office in the United States. The abortion lobby said so, and the facts bear that out. Even the egregiously radical Bill Clinton felt the need to mute his pro-abortion stance by calling for abortion to be 'safe, legal, and rare.' But Davis embraced all abortions at all times, going so far as to threaten the legislature to not even introduce a bill that would give any consideration to the legal rights of the child in the womb.
A sympathetic media covered-up some of the more outrageous aspects of Davis' pro-abortion administration. One of the most glaring examples being that Davis' key lieutenant, the individual credited with running his administration, was Susan Kennedy, his Cabinet Secretary. Because of media approbation of the administration, few people realized that prior to her appointment, Susan Kennedy was one of the principal players in the abortion lobby. She was the Director of the California Abortion Rights Action League (CARAL). Imagine if the director of the California ProLife Council had been appointed to a similar position in a Lungren or Simon administration; the media would have been unrelenting in their criticism. Would the ideology of that administration have been discussed?
Arnold Schwarznegger has self-identified as 'pro-choice.' But in supporting parental notification and opposing partial-birth abortions, he has taken a significant break from the monolithic abortion lobby. This has made him public enemy #1 at NOW and NARAL and CARAL. There are quite a few pro-life legislators that have rallied to Arnie's side. They are in a position to advise and influence him. He has said he wants that advice. He has appointed pro-lifers to his transition team. Perhaps most significantly, unlike the unpleasant tenor of the Wilson years, Arnie has said he doesn't want to create the internal Republican wars over abortion. He does not want to make war on the party platform. These are significant distinctions. Arnie's victory is a victory for those who want to move us away from the pro-abortion mentality ardently pursued during the previous six years.
One more observation: Several years ago a local Catholic priest, Msgr. Edward Kavanaugh, a sterling man and a pro-life leader, rebuked Davis for his unstinting pro-abortion position. Governor Davis made a point of not only dismissing the comments but then went out of his way to publicly embarrass and humiliate Msgr. Kavanaugh on a number of occasions. Last night the world watched Gray Davis being summarily removed from office. At that same moment Msgr. Kavanaugh was being publicly honored for his tireless work on behalf of defenseless orphans. Arco Arena exploded in cheers while at center court the Maloof brothers presented him with a check for $100,000. Pro-Lifers have thanked him many times, but it is nice to see him get rewarded in a more substantial manner.
And it's nice to see his pro-abortion nemesis get his reward. It was a great day for California.

"Schwarzenegger drew supporters from all political persuasions, including moderate-liberal voters who are pro-choice."
The Barbara Boxer election is just around the corner. If you want McC to have a reasonable chance, you have to consider that crazed attacks on Arnold are going to drive away Tom's potential voters. Tom needs many of Arnold's voters. There are important issues at stake here.

I guess now instead of ten toes in hell there are only nine toes. Exactly. He may be in favor of killng babies, but at least he's our guy.
Additionally, as the polls indicated, if he stayed out of the race McClintock, a real pro-lifer, would have won.
Now what do we have. Two of the biggest "stars" in the Republocrat party are pro-abortion, Guiliani and Schwarzenegger.

In the meantime, until Arnold is certified the winner and sworn in, Gray Davis is appointing 5 to 6 judges per day, according to Fox News this morning. It is doubtful that any of them are neutral on the abortion issue, let alone pro-life. The Davis legacy will live on long after he is but an unpleasant memory in Sacramento.

Hey, I wish McClintock were governor, but having said that, how were you not paying attention? California already had a heretic "Catholic" in the Governor's mansion, and another one in the Lt. Governor's office. The bottom line is that a guy Planned Parenthood et al adored has been replaced with a man they hate. It's not a great victory, but it's a victory.
And by the way, just making sure this is no longer possible...
...is an essential pro-life measure, as far as I'm concerned.

Bump for a good article.
"Parental Notification" is an important step in the right direction.
Arnold's position is no doubt influenced by the fact he has two daughters, whereas Davis was a father to no one.

Three years ago then Mr., now President, Bush said he'd sign a PBA bill. ravingnutter has compiled a short and non-exhautive list of pro-life victories won by the Bush Administration here.
How soon people forget Clinton.

California's PRO-LIFE supporters SHOULD be celebrating the recall of an enemy of LIFE.
Parental notification and a partial birth abortion ban are huge issues, and can't be considered inconsequential because they are only 'incremental.'

Rather than rail at Arnold or his supporters, I'm undertaking a letter camapign to inform him more fully of the facts regarding individual prenatal human life. If he actually knows the truth and continues to be pro-abortion, THEN I'll rail against him. It is too soon to judge that, however.

Parental notification and a partial birth abortion ban are huge issues, and can't be considered inconsequential because they are only 'incremental.' Agree with all you wrote, especially this last. I'd also like to add some info Michael Barone provided on Brit Hume the other night. He spoke of going to an Arnold rally and seeing a multitude of every race and lots of women. He then went to a Bustamante rally across town and he said there were less than 200 people and it appeared that every single one of them (other than a handful of union reps) was a PP or NOW professional activist. Let's think about this for a minute, pro-lifers: women who have made the promotion of infanticide their life's work were scared out of their minds that Schwarzenegger would make it into office.
Hmmmmmmm.

Whitman said she was against partial birth abortion
too. I bet there will never be a parential notification
bill whose wording he will support.
And as for partial birth abortion it would be the
same except congress is banning it now so that is
a mute issue.

I just put on my Haz-Mat suit and went to CARAL's website which is, for the most part, surprisingly out of date. The "Newsroom" and "Newsletter" are from LAST year, as well as the "CARAL CONNECTION Update for Pro-Choice Activism." The last calendar of events is May 2003. This, in and of itself, is good news- they must be panicking and running around nilly-willy unable to even keep their foot soldiers up to date.

Some of the folks on FR, you would not believe the hassle they were giving pro-life supporters of Arnold. Canticle of Deborah even told me I'd have to justify my support to God someday, because I didn't vote for the pro-life candidate. I find it hard to imagine the Almighty would be mad at me for choosing the vote that would keep a pro-abortion racist from ascending to the governor's chair and handing out licenses to any jihadi who walked into a DMV and pretended to be from Tiajuana. She also said (and I'm not busting on her specifically, just using her as an example) that Arnold also supported the immigrant license law, and when I proved he was against it, she didn't budge a millimeter. Some people hear pro-choice and just lose their minds. Believing that California would suddenly become a safety zone for fetuses if McClintock won was Pollyannaism, but believing that you're better off voting for a guy who can't possibly win is just goofy.

The same can be said of George W. Bush. Abortionists have also named him 'Public Enemy #1.' The hatred the left has for him, is, IMO, due in large part to the fact that he is a great threat to the wanton killing of babies that they declare is a 'woman's right.'
The evil one (and his followers) know who their enemy is......which is why we need to uphold our President, and our nation....that we would once again become a culture of LIFE........in prayer daily.

Mr. Silverback......I'm going out on a limb on this thread, but do you see a difference in the tenor of the posters who see abortion as a spiritual battle vs. those who are more politically motivated?
It has been my observation that those pro-lifers who are most vicious against people who vote like you did...... from a strong pro-life perspective, but a grasp of the bigger picture..... are not demonstrating the fruit of the Spirit, but rather a primarily politically motivated anger toward anyone who doesn't toe their political line. And they often use their own self-perceived moral superiority as a weapon against their political foes.
