Take BB guns from kids, police ask
Oak Park police Monday urged parents to confiscate BB and pellet guns from children after a weekend vandalism spree left 10 vehicles with damaged windows.
"No good can come from BB guns," said Oak Park Police Comdr.. Robert Scianna, department spokesman. "They're not a toy. Kids can hurt themselves or cause property damage. A BB gun is one step away from the real thing. Buy your kid a football or a baseball."
Windows on ten vehicles were reported damaged over the weekend by BB and pellet rounds on the 600, 800 and 1200 blocks of North Taylor Avenue, 700 and 1100 blocks of North Humphrey Street. Police did not have a dollar figure on the damages.
"If parents don't know what to do with the BB guns, they can bring them to the station and we'll dispose of them," Scianna said of guns confiscated from parents.
The Oak Park Police Department is located in the basement of Village Hall, 123 Madison Street.

Sure, let's punish everyone because of a group of kids (who, IMHO are of high school age, not the general users of BB Guns) decided to become vandals. So, let's punish every kid, regardless whether they participated, or even know why they are being punished.
Next week, all of the parents will be encouraged to ground their kids, because some punk spray painted a fence.

Buy your kid a football or a baseball When you buy them the baseball, they have to have a bat to go along with it. And, we all know that a baseball bat can never be used to vandalize a car.

A little slip of the tongue there, huh?
As a side consideration: Anyone in the area care to call up one of the local window companies and ask how many windows, on average, they repair a week that are broken by baseballs and footballs?

Makes more sense to take away all the high-powered cars some of these kids drive. They have no clue how to drive them other than stomp on it.

I think we need BB gun registration. We could limit prospective criminals to one BB gun a month. Maybe even a 400% tax on BB's? (/sarcasm)
And the nonsense continues.....
To: Stew Padasso
Well if all the bb guns should be taken from good kids who dont abuse them...
should all the honest cops be disarmed because of a few crooked ones?
