Schwarzenegger Win Leaves Campus Unsettled
By JANINE PLISKA Contributing Writer Wednesday, October 8, 2003
Disappointment rippled through students and faculty pundits massed at the Institute of Governmental Studies yesterday after results handily gave Arnold Schwarzenegger the governor's seat in California's historic recall election.
About 50 students and faculty members mingled around a single television screen, cycling clips of concession speeches.
Schwarzenegger's overwhelming victory left many viewers without the sparks they had hoped for.
"I don't think it was anger, it was people wanting a show. Davis isn't an exciting person," said Nas Khan, internal vice president for the Cal Berkeley Democrats.
After months of heavy politicking and media coverage, the results drew to a close election circus that Republican UC Berkeley student Antoine Imbert said had stained California's reputation.
"This may not give a good impression of American democracy to the rest of the world," Imbert said.
Most shared a sense of resignation but awaited the final numbers.
Imbert said he was pleased by the shift in leadership, but was reserved about Schwarzenegger's abilities to lead the state.
"I'm glad California will be run by a Republican, but I'm not sure he is the most qualified person. I'm not happy or sad. I'll just wait and see," he said.
Others said they were disgusted by the recall frenzy because it drew entertainers, porn stars and average Californians to put their name on the ballot.
"People are voting for the wrong reason. They came out for no other reason than to vote for Arnold," said William Ma, external affairs president for the Cal Berkeley Democrats. "It was like the American Idol show. Vote for your favorite idol."
Others feared Schwarzenegger's rise to the state's top seat could send a blow to women.
"I think this is the beginning of a downturn for women's issues, gay rights, minority rights and everything I care about," said UC Berkeley student Dorie Perez of the Berkeley NOW Task Force.
But not everyone on campus mourned the resultsstudents danced outside Eshleman Hall after results announced that voters had shot down Proposition 54.
"It's good about 54," Khan said. "At least that's a plus.

It's when they get out in the real world Most of them will eventually grow up. The rest, the die hard leftist losers, we'll find standing in line at the welfare offices.

"This may not give a good impression of American democracy to the rest of the world," [Republican]Imbert said." The California Recall is a GREAT example of democracy at work. I hope Berkley doesn't produce many more Republicans like Imbert.

I just get tired of my tax $'s and yours paying for these communists/socialists/perverts and Islamofascist to live in Berkley and other rabid left university towns in California.
However, you are right about when these fools graduate from Berkley and move into our towns and cities, they cause massive problems with their social engineering schemes.

Can a Californio tell us how the dolts in Marin County voted? These are the same people that turned out Johnny Taliban and usually vote far left in spite of the fact that the county is the wealthiest in the US. Thanks to the inhabitants, the county is one of the weirdest places I know. Without the leftists, it would be a great place to live.

And in a few years she will be caring about where her next meal is coming from since she is so poorly educated, she cannot fend for herself.

"I don't think it was anger, it was people wanting a show. Davis isn't an exciting person," For all that education to be found there, those folks in Berkeley sure are stupid.

Awww, poor little liberal kids. I feel sooooooo sorry for them! Of course now when they get out of school they might be able to find a job, but the anguish must be devistating at the moment!

"I think this is the beginning of a downturn for women's issues, gay rights, minority rights and everything I care about," said UC Berkeley student Dorie Perez of the Berkeley NOW Task Force. Well Dorie dear, there's always the Canadian border calling you, or if you're incredibly discouraged, consider a relocation to France. Have you heard of the Rachel Corrie story? Keep trying to make a difference! Please keep us posted so that you can volunteer for human-shield duty when the call goes up for the invasion of Iran and/or Syria.

"I think this is the beginning of a downturn for women's issues, gay rights, minority rights and everything I care about," said UC Berkeley student Dorie Perez of the Berkeley NOW Task Force. Imagine how sad and pathetic Dorie's life must be if "everything she cares about" revolves around women's issue, gay rights and minority rights. I can't even imagine how dreadful that life must be.
Anyhow, where were the NOW cows during all the "bimbo eruptions" around Bill Clinton? Oh, that's right, it didn't matter back then. It was "old news", you know, way back in 1991 at the Excelsior Hotel. On the other hand, the Schwargenegger accusations date back to 1975 so that is something that is a major concern. Just trying to understand the logic here.

"I think this is the beginning of a downturn for women's issues, gay rights, minority rights and everything I care about," said UC Berkeley student Dorie Perez of the Berkeley NOW Task Force. Sounds like Dorie and Co. might perform dynamic entry raids wherever women, gays, and minorities are being oppressed.

"This may not give a good impression of American democracy to the rest of the world," Imbert said.
It's as if these people never moved past grade school/middle school. They are still trying to be in the "in crowd" and care more for what others think of them than thinking for themselves. They are emotionally stunted.
