TOM MCCLINTOCK DAILY EDITION - 10/8/03 - GOING DARK!

Posted on 10/08/2003 7:10:21 AM PDT by Rabid Dog

As many of you know this has been a local, regional, national news and views thread. I want to thank all of you that have respected its intent. When I first started this thead, I was on the fence between Arnold and Tom. Within a week, it became clear that Tom was the man I could respect and support.

Within a month it became clear that the CA G.O.P. was not an organization I could respect and support and so I have switched parties and will be changing my screen name to Rabid Dog.

Tomorrow I am entering Freeper Detox and will be drying out for a week or so but am looking foward to discussing the changes in California under the leadership of our new governor - ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER!!

What has been clear from day one is that McClintock believed that this race was a primary, not a general election. He may be a true conservative, but he is not a true Republican.

McClintock’s entire candidacy was a replay of Bob Dole’s, and basically boiled down to: “I’ve paid my dues and it’s my turn.” Sorry, but that’s not the way it works.

McClintock had a chance to be a part of this win, and maybe to have some real influence. Instead, arrogance, stubbornness and denial became his operational mandates. He wore them like a badge of courage. However, the electorate correctly judged them as personality traits that made him unfit to be governor.

The Republican Party of California finally did something right. It coalesced around an appealing candidate and helped get him elected in a landslide while tossing a bum governor to the curb. This win is really unprecedented in the history of not just California, but American politics.

Even Arnold’s supporters (myself included) concede that he isn’t the perfect candidate. However, there is not such thing as perfection. If we held our spouses, children, friends and business associates to the same standard we are supposed to hold our candidates, we would all live a very solitary existence. Out on the fringe... where McClintock now finds himself.

Oh, so throwing the vote down a meaningless hole that could elect a Democrat is a good thing. That speaks volumes.

You did nothing to prevent Bustamante from being elected unless you voted for Arnold.

I see nothing from the recall that doesn't strongly indicate that had the GOP supported McClintock he would have won.

it is truly the intent of the GOP to take the party to the left and ignore the base that supplies it its supposed principles, then it will become the party of "We're not the Democrats." Thus Democrats will have taken control of the determinants of all political choices.

At this, conservatives have done a rotten job, preferring to spout principles and quote the founding fathers instead of showing how the limited government they gave us can undo the mess of democratic socialism. Until we can distill those ideas and their supporting mechanics into simple and understandable terms, we don't deserve to win elections.

We simply have not undertaken the "long march through the institutions" that the Marxist philosopher Gramsci spoke of as the key to the leftist success at creating a power base…. Finally, we lack the organization. Too many on the "right" are, for whatever reason, simply unable to get along with each other. Why I Believe

. Sir, on May 6th, on the floor of the house you asked the question: "Are the American people determined they still wish to have a Constitutional Republic." How would you answer that question, Sir?

A. A growing number of Americans want it, but a minority, and that is why we are losing this fight in Washington at the moment. That isn't as discouraging as it sounds, because if you had asked me that in 1976 when I first came to Washington, I would have said there were a lot fewer who wanted it then. We have drifted along and, although we have still enjoyed a lot of prosperity in the last twenty-five years, we have further undermined the principles of the Constitution and private property market economy. Therefore, I think we have to continue to do what we are doing to get a larger number. But if we took a vote in this country and told them what it meant to live in a Constitutional Republic and what it would mean if you had a Congress dedicated to the Constitution they would probably reject it. It reminds me of a statement by Walter Williams when he said that if you had two candidates for office, one running on the programs of Stalin and the other running on the programs of Jefferson the American people would probably vote for the candidate who represented the programs of Stalin. If you didn't put the name on it and just looked at the programs, they would say, Oh yeah, we believe in national health care and we believe in free education for everybody and we believe we should have gun control. Therefore, the majority of the people would probably reject Thomas Jefferson. So that describes the difficulty, but then again, we have to look at some of the positive things which means that we just need more people dedicated to the rule of law. Otherwise, there will be nothing left here within a short time. Are the American people determined they still wish to have a Constitutional Republic An Interview With Ron Paul, SierraTimes.com, 05. 23. 03

The Heritage Foundation, Hoover Institution and American Enterprise Institute are a few of the many orginazations that have offered solutions for many years. Folk have been shown time and time again how the limited government they gave us can undo the mess of democratic socialism and have repeatedly rejected it. AND GOV'T schools are determined to see that it is rejected forever.

HOMESCHOOL, or die as a nation.

If the 13% that voted for Tom had not shown up, Davis wouldn't have been recalled.

Do I need to do the math for you?

I said Tom would end up need to learn to love illegal drugs and JOIN the Libertarian party and that his percentage would drop as the voting neared, but he put himself in a position to spoil the race for Republicans and to make himself hated by a vast group of people who would have once voted for him in another election.

By the way, my personal thanks and gratitude to the McClintock loyalists who hung in there alongside Tom and didn't give up, lose hope, or desert to the other camp when it was the popular thing to do.

YOU are the best. If I had to win or lose alongside anyone last night, I am proud to say I did it standing alongside Tom McClintock and everyone who supported him, come hell or highwater.

"...by showing how and why creative conservative ideas can truly create a productive and happy society."

I couldn't agree more, however, exposing the electorate to those ideas takes resources and energy. Where do we go to get that? What would motivate people like Issa and others to venture their capital to further such a worthwhile endeavor?

What good are "ways" without the "means?"

The RATs of today are communists, even the Communist Party USA recognizes that.

The GOP of today are the RATs of yesterday to a large degree.

The only redeeming portion of the electorate in America, the anchor that keeps us from completely sliding off the cliff, has been marginalized by its own party, as its own party identifies more and more with the RATS.

That's it in a nutshell...

I disagree with you here. I don't hate Tom McClintock. I like the guy. Just don't see him as a strong executive. That's all.

I also don't think he will leave, or be asked to leave, the party.

I am very happy that davis is gone. The state of California under Davis has really screwed my business. If it looked like it was going to be close in the election I would have voted for Arnold. I too will give him the benefit of the doubt and hope for the best. My biggest hope it that he is more conservative than he makes out to be and played politics to win.

I wish all of us here in California good luck with what is ahead.

Thank God for term limits.

He will of course attempt to run against Boxer after betraying the Republican party and I hope a LOYAL conservative comes forward to hand him his shorts and retire his future.

You project much upon Tom's motivations and thought processes and unless you are his political consultant or his mother - I don't think you can do that.

Tom's positions and philosophy are embraced by at least half of the conservative base here in California. He kept many important issue on the radar screen. I'm very glad I had the opportunity to vote for a man that I believe in and a man that upholds the Republican Platform.

The Republican Party can go pound sand if it can't support its own platform.

I hold my spouse, myself, my kids and my candidates to certain standards. Among them is to be people of their word and respectful of others. I don't think this is a lot to ask for - I know Tom is like this - we will see about Arnold.

So a loyal conservative is one that puts the (R) ahead of all else? Now you know why the Whig Party isn't anymore. Is it any freaking wonder this country is a basket case??

I am not a sore loser and never expected Mcclintock to win with Arnold in the race.It is safe to assume that Arnold is liberal on social issues by his own statements. I think he is a fine man. I hope he does good things for the state. I would have voted for him if it looked like the election was going to be close. There is a poster who says McClintock is finished after this race. I think that is far from the truth.

So let’s get this straight then. Tom is supposed to sell out his principles for the promise of support further down the line? You called him scum and you’ve yet to retract that so is that still your opinion of him?

PS: As for the drugs remark you seem to have no problem with supporting the murder of an unborn child but let some poor guy grow some weed in his window box, have a toot and ring dominos and you’re all for throwing away the key.
