What has been clear from day one is that McClintock believed that this race was a primary, not a general election. He may be a true conservative, but he is not a true Republican.

McClintock’s entire candidacy was a replay of Bob Dole’s, and basically boiled down to: “I’ve paid my dues and it’s my turn.” Sorry, but that’s not the way it works.

McClintock had a chance to be a part of this win, and maybe to have some real influence. Instead, arrogance, stubbornness and denial became his operational mandates. He wore them like a badge of courage. However, the electorate correctly judged them as personality traits that made him unfit to be governor.

The Republican Party of California finally did something right. It coalesced around an appealing candidate and helped get him elected in a landslide while tossing a bum governor to the curb. This win is really unprecedented in the history of not just California, but American politics.

Even Arnold’s supporters (myself included) concede that he isn’t the perfect candidate. However, there is not such thing as perfection. If we held our spouses, children, friends and business associates to the same standard we are supposed to hold our candidates, we would all live a very solitary existence. Out on the fringe... where McClintock now finds himself.

You project much upon Tom's motivations and thought processes and unless you are his political consultant or his mother - I don't think you can do that.

Tom's positions and philosophy are embraced by at least half of the conservative base here in California. He kept many important issue on the radar screen. I'm very glad I had the opportunity to vote for a man that I believe in and a man that upholds the Republican Platform.

The Republican Party can go pound sand if it can't support its own platform.

I hold my spouse, myself, my kids and my candidates to certain standards. Among them is to be people of their word and respectful of others. I don't think this is a lot to ask for - I know Tom is like this - we will see about Arnold.
