McClintock Cautiously Optimistic About Chances (McC Mapping Out First Day in Office)

McClintock Cautiously Optimistic About Chances

After casting his vote this morning in a Thousand Oaks polling place, Republican state Senator Tom McClintock expressed confidence that an upset win would put him in the governor's office.

In recent days, McClintock has repeatedly said his his third place standing in the polls doesn't respresent the true feelings of voters. He believes the people of California will vote their consciences, resulting in a victory for him.

McClintock had a message for those who like his message, but say he can't win and intend to vote for Schwarzenegger instead of him. "Don't vote for someone else's calculations, vote your own convictions," he said.

While disturbed by recent allegations about fellow Republican Schwarzenegger, McClintock also expressed skepticism about the charges because of the timing. Whatever his reservations, however, he said that if the accusations are proven, Schwarzenegger doesn't deserve to be governor.

McClintock has mapped out his first day in office if elected. First, he plans to sign an executive order to repeal the car tax, then take action to rescind expensive energy contracts, and finally call a special session to examine workman's compensation issues.

I hear you.

In the Northeast and the West Coast, Republicans have difficulty being elected to statewide office unless they are moderate. We have to work with what we have and try to move the political center of gravity to the right.

A similar problem for Democrats with the South, but on the other side of the political spectrum. The US Senator (D-Georgia) Miller is a great conservative, and Democrats know they cannot elect a Barbara Boxer or a Ted Kennedy in Georgia.

The fly-over country will always be more conservative, and in those states, Republicans can elect superb conservatives to both statewide and federal levels.

Why is it that McClintock insists that if you don't vote for him, you're not voting your conscience?

How can anyone with a conscience in California vote for a man whose prominent declarations of how he would govern were snippets from his movie scripts. Governance is not play acting. What a bunch of losers.

There will be few legal challenges due to the margin of victory. The democrats are so over in this state.

Of course Je$$ie HighJack$'n will do his bit, but there will only be a suit or two other than that.

I don't think so.

His personality type tends more to blame others, imho.

I hope he doesn't go down that road but I expect it.

Besides, does he drink at all?

He just comes across as too smug to cry much about much of anything.

Sadly.

So, what is the difference between Terry McAlluif (sp?) and Art Torres saying that the recall will fall and Cruz will win, and McClintock blathering his delusion?

Evidently, nothing.

Tom just had the 'Peter Principle' smack him in the face....

No, the problem is simply that people like that will not support any candidate that a moderate might consider voting for. They honestly believe that they can win elections through the purity of their beliefs rather than realize that they need a majority of voters willing to pull the lever.

They would rather starve dreaming of steak, rather than eat hamburger and build strength for the next fight.

But it's THEIR conscience, isn't it? It's THEIR principles, isn't it?

Of course, but to see the amount of people doing this on an alledgedly "conservative" web site is distressing. Like I said, people had pragmatic reasons for voting for Arnie. God bless 'em, I respect that. But can you honestly say that a "conservative" could prefer Arnold on the issues?

The democrats are so over in this state.

I think you are so right. I think the dismantling has begun.

I'm so glad that they decided, in their desperation, to get so dirty. I think some eyes were opened.

Are you under the impression that "conservatives" march in lockstep?

I like Tom, but even you must admit that his recent statements (e.g., Arnold should quit if the charges are true) and plotting his first day in office in spite of the indisputable fact that he had no chance are bit off.

Q for all of you folks bashing McClintock:

Why?

It appears your guy's winning, and winning big.
