I think I know why.
These surrender monkeys for Arnold are now feeling the way a kid on a schoolyard feels after he has been challenged to a fist fight by another kid and he responds by chickening out and running like a bunny. The shame settles in later when he is safely away, and the kid then becomes angry not only at the kid he ran away from but at all the other kids on the playground who watched him run away.
Half of these surrender monkeys, seeing the likely landslide, are now saying to themselves, "Damn! I could have stuck with my principles and not voted for a pro-gun-control, pro-abortion, pro-welfare-for-illegals, pro-enviro-nazi, pro-homosexual adoption liberal!"
And now they are ashamed of themselves.
