Media Wants Recall to be a NAILBITER! (My Opinion)

Posted on 10/07/2003 11:37:35 AM PDT by RogerWilko

Most of the media I've heard keep saying this is gonna be a horserace and it's going to come down to the wire. Anyone else hearing the same thing?

Most of the polls don't seem to be showing that. I think they don't want it to be a blowout so they can commentate like sports casters all night! I hope their WHOLE night gets ruined and it's a TOTAL BLOWOUT from the 1st exit poll!

It's sure looking like that. I know their whole night would be completely ruined if the 1st reports out show the Recall winning by over 60% and Arnold in the lead by 15-20%!

Ah, but the hardcore Dem precints won't be reporting in until very late -- when they know exactly how many votes they need to win.

Oh yeah! That looks good! I'm just praying for a MAXIMUM BLOWOUT! There's nothing better than totally dejected, disillusioned demoncrats!

Check out this delusion I found on the DUmmy site:

PMResponse to Reply #1 2. My prediction?

Davis defeats the recall. 73% to 27%.

Bustamante leads the YES on the recall candidates. Ahhnold finishes with a dismal 19%. McClontick (whatever his name is) is right behind at 18%.

If this is what a lot of them think, it should hopefully be a fun place to visit tonight!

Again, did you read the REPORT? You have to follow TRENDS. This smear was late breaking. Does the recall margins freefall into election day or did the drop finally stop on Monday?

"Erosion in Arnold Support, But Not at Tipping Point"

"Margin for recall dropped 25 points to 14 points between 10/3, 10/4 and 10/5"

Don't know about a nail biter, but voting is heavy and there was even somebody right out of the hospital in their gown with a decathiter in line to vote...DETERMINED TO VOTE.

You can bet the rent on that, thanks to the hig turnout being reported. To paraphrase something that P.J. O'Rourke said when he observed the 1990 elections in Nicaraugua that threw out the Sandinistas, people do not stand around in line for hours to vote for the status quo. And the status quo is Gray Davis and the Democrats.

I fear the Dems will cheat their way to victory. They will find a way to cook up enough votes. They resorted to desperate smears, so no doubt they are rigging the votecounting too. Recall loses. My opinion is not based on any real data, just knowledge of how dirty and desperate the enemy is.

Just keep track of what the polls said last night, and what the results of the election are today. Then, as usual, we'll be reminded how amazingly useless it is to think that asking 500 people some biased questions is any indicator of what tens of millions are thinking.

Just spoke to a woman who is a big in Arnold's southern CA campaign. She says that despite the polls showing recall winning and Arnold winning, there is great consternation that the unions/education lobbies will get out the vote, and that people (especially the young) who support Arnold simply don't vote.

I sure hope not! We'll start finding out in less than 8 hours.

Of course the media wants a close election. A nailbiter is better for ratings than a blowout. It's no different than a Super Bowl game -- if it's a blowout, viewers turn off the TV.

Yes, and they still have a 14 point lead on the recall. Its not even close. Look at these other last minute polls.

For an ALTERNATIVE view, (i.e. one with some basis in reality) - see Dan Weintraub, in www.sacbee.com/insider:

And the envelope please
Here are the final results of the major independent polls that have surveyed California voters on the recall. The date of the last night of polling is in parentheses.

You could tell it was going to be a blowout. Yesterday the media were full of stories about how winning the CA governorship is really losing because Arnold will inherit so many problems.

FOX reported earlier that Davis has planned to address the media at about 8:30.

Either the dems are up to something nasty, or their exit polling is disastrous!
