Media Wants Recall to be a NAILBITER! (My Opinion)

Posted on 10/07/2003 11:37:35 AM PDT by RogerWilko

Most of the media I've heard keep saying this is gonna be a horserace and it's going to come down to the wire. Anyone else hearing the same thing?

Most of the polls don't seem to be showing that. I think they don't want it to be a blowout so they can commentate like sports casters all night! I hope their WHOLE night gets ruined and it's a TOTAL BLOWOUT from the 1st exit poll!

I noticed the same comments on cnbc today, presumably this is a ratings play, as you suggest. I don't think there is much doubt scwartz. is going to win

just wait for the aftermath of this recall. If davis does get thrown out I bet there will be lawsuits out the ears from our friends on the left.

You're absolutely right, not just because of tonight's ratings, but to portray Arnold as "illegitimate" and "selected, not elected", and the whole affair as a power grab by the Vast Rightwing Conspiracy. The usual litany.

It's sure looking like that. I know their whole night would be completely ruined if the 1st reports out show the Recall winning by over 60% and Arnold in the lead by 15-20%!

The late polls, including internals, showed a steep and rapid drop in the recall numbers after the LA Slimes story. It could be VERY close.

Good cover for election fraud. Remember the Florida Effect? Elite media have their marching orders.

Very true. I hope Arnold makes it look about as close as the Tampa Bay - Oakland Superbowl game.

Did you see a dropoff in the cheering throngs coming out to see Schwarzenegger....?

I didn't.

The Survey USA and Stanford polls both show potential blowouts, I hope they're accurate. If the margin of error goes in a favorable direction, it will be a blowout!

From exit polls to certification...
room for fraud participation.
Might be closer than we think...
Davis' tactics really stink.

The print press wants Gray Davis to stay, the tv press wants Arnold to win in a squeaker. Seriously. Even the dems in the tv stations want Arnold to win. They will actually keep reporters in Sacramento for the first time in decades with "the terminator" in the state house.

People outside of California do need to realize that vapidness trumps ideology of media members here. They are more stupid than they are liberal (which they are as well).

The print media on the other hand, who knows they are mostly irrelevant are hardcore leftists.

I was watching the local news yesterday or Sunday and Bustamonte had his own rally that they reported there were about 100 supporters! What a turnout!

The rallies for Davis are most probably all his staff and bussed in union thugs! Even with them, I haven't seen a load of support.

Did you see the last SurveyUSA poll *report*? It said that there was a huuuuge decline in both recall and Arnold support in their tracking survey post-smear. They said basically there are two possibilites: 1) Arnold recovers from the freefall and wins 2) People decide "better the devil they know"

I think some of you are absolutely deluding yourselves. I heard fear and anger in David Dreier's voice last night, when he was on John & Ken..

Davis' fate in voters' hands - Influx of young, occasional voters favors Schwarzenegger
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/996847/posts

Mark Simon, Chronicle Political Writer Tuesday, October 7, 2003

http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2003/10/07/VOTERS.TMP

California's historic and frenzied recall campaign reaches the finish line today with an estimated 10 million voters expected to determine if Gov. Gray Davis will serve out the rest of his second term or be replaced by one of 135 other candidates.

The estimated turnout -- including 2.1 million absentee voters who already have cast their ballots -- would be 30 percent higher than the 7.7 million who voted 11 months ago in the 2002 election, when Davis was re-elected, said Mark DiCamillo, director of the Field Poll. Field issued the projection Monday.

The boost in participation is likely to come from younger, occasional voters drawn to the polls by Republican actor Arnold Schwarzenegger, and that could mean trouble for Davis, said DiCamillo.

Historically, a high voter turnout favors Democrats, but in this election, with 400,000 new registered voters, many of the participants are "occasional voters, those voters who have been aroused by this election," DiCamillo said.

Seventy percent of those new, younger voters are for the recall "and are very much causing trouble for the governor," DiCamillo said. "They're less likely to be risk-averse and much more willing to upset the apple cart and change the status quo."

Yeah, basically, the media despises democracy...To think that we voters might actually decide elections on our own, with no regard to giving the media something to hype, is very rude of us.

The last Survey USA poll had Arnold crushing Davis and Cruz.

Survey USA (10/3-10/5) Recall Yes-No 57% 43%
Survey USA (10/3-10/5) Arnold 46% Cruz 34% Tom 13%
