First the dress; next the jewelry. ;)

The original and one altered to lose the bow, taper the sleeves, and adjust how the dress drapes by raising the "gathered" part of the dress. (I'm not a designer obviously so I don't know the lingo, but I may have to learn....)

Original versus Option 1
...

I "color": you decide. ;)

Interesting take on the First Lady's dress, kitkat.

I love the orange dress and wish I had one just like it...and somewhere to WEAR it! LOL

***It is a testament to our nation and its foundations that we survived the klinton filth machine for eight gruesome years!***

What a wonderful thought. And SO right.

LOL-I love it when the folks who inhabit this thread get into fashion! Isn't it just kinda like a cork being shot and the pressure escaping? Ya can really get into it! LOL

I actually do like it somewhat without the bow, but it is the SKIRT on this dress, combined with the smart color (for fall----talk about classy) that knocks me out...and Kitkat is so right...........just look at how the bow with its drape takes the eye down...so I defer-it is not to snug the waist in but to draw the eye down, adding (surprisingly) a longer, leaner look. And it, perhaps, takes a bit of interest off her bossom, which kinda sorta maybe reflects the thinking of our gracious, beloved, genuine, remarkable and just plain gorgeous First Lady.

Never really noticed it before, but I think you're right about her being short-waisted and the bow helping. Now, I'm a bit short waisted too; think I should start wearing bows on my jeans--I mean evening gowns??? And do you think I'd get as much attention as beautiful Laura? I think not. :-)

Thank you for such a terrific reply. I, too, am starting to see more and more the spiritual battle that is going on...I believe Ronald Reagan mentioned something about this, and I know our current President calls upon our Father, constantly.

I began praying with surprising (to myself) interest in lifting up President Bush, with greater fervor and passion than I ever remember praying for anyone I did not know personally, with such consistancy during the campaign season and election of President Bush. I felt absolutely called to pray. Maybe tugged would be a better word. Ever felt that? Shocked the heck out of me for awhile.

I think bill klinton awoke a passionate republican here when he began to trash our culture, our WH and our nation . So I guess I owe him, interestingly, for this....because from experiencing this rapist as a President, I solidified my own beliefs and began caring, with passion, about the character of those who lead us.

And our President, in asking for our prayers during the campaign, awoke my heart and I began actively searching out our Father.

Ah well....it is spiritual, homemom, I know this as sure as I sit here typing. And we are going to pray our nation thru this, even as forces that are very dark pound on....

Cyber---I know exactly what you mean!

My prediction: I think the LAT overextended itself - and instead of driving people away from Arnold - actually angered the public even more than it already was at Gray Davis, and now even more people will vote for Arnold. I'm expecting a landslide! And .. Gray Davis will NO LONGER BE GOVERNOR.

I don't suppose the dems are paying attention .. but this election should be a huge clue .. when you overkill .. you drive people away. They won't get it .. and in 2004 - it will bite them BIG TIME because they don't control the public with the media anymore.

Does anybody know how many State Dinners that the White House has hosted since George W. Bush took office, I can only remember one other.

This was the 4th and she has had a bow, almost in the same spot for every one of them. Mexico, red dress with a bow. Poland the dress with that awful blue/green bow, Phillipines, white dress with bow and now Kenya, red dress with a bow.

Exactly what I said .. chops her in half .. makes her look dowdy (or dumpy) or SHORTer than she really is. Take off the bow and you get a streamlined sleek look - and a beautiful color on a beautiful lady. Jewelry has to go too. Needed something more elegant.

You may be interested in knowing that there is a daily thread for prayers for the President, our military, and our nation.

Pray for President Bush - Day 1110

The thread was started back in September of 2000 because many people sensed a great spiritual battle being waged. In the beginning, the thread was titled Pray for Bush and it was a real blessing to be able to change it to the current title. There was actually a round-the-clock prayer vigil that people signed up for starting the Sunday night before that fateful election in 2000 .... and it continued until December, rather than ending on Election Day as originally scheduled.

The thread is for matters of widespread concern and not for personal needs .... there are other threads on FR for those.

Leviticus 23

26 And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying: 27"Also the tenth day of this seventh month shall be the Day of Atonement. It shall be a holy convocation for you; you shall afflict your souls, and offer an offering made by fire to the LORD. 28And you shall do no work on that same day, for it is the Day of Atonement, to make atonement for you before the LORD your God.
