45,000 E-mails and Counting – Thank You

October 6, 2003

2:08 PM ET BEGIN TRANSCRIPT Rush Limbaugh Radio Show

Let me again express a sentiment of pure love and appreciation for all of you. Since last week, when the ESPN brouhaha hit and the drug story hit, the number of e-mails is unbelievable to me. It's approaching the 45,000 mark now. I continue to be overawed by it.

And I just want to take some time here to acknowledge a vast majority of people's support. It is overwhelming. And I want you to know I'm getting it and I receive it. It moves me deeply and greatly. I appreciate it, as I have your support of this program all 15 years, more than I am able to express with words. And I just want you to know that. I never have said it enough, and I want to try to correct that from now on, but I said last Friday that we in this program, we have almost a familial type relationship that has evolved here, and I understand what that entails. And I understand the bond of loyalty that exists and what ties that loyalty together, and one of the things is trust. And I realize that that is shaken in a lot of you, but yet you maintain that you are full-fledged behind me. And I appreciate that, and you will have that support, I hope, validated. You will know that I have continued, and will do what I have to do to earn it, and never take it for granted.

Before we get any further with all this I just want you to know how I appreciate what you're all saying, how much I appreciate all that you've done over all these years and how desperately much I appreciate your expressions of support now. Believe me. I notice it and I'm taking none of it for granted. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

No that is the problem over there. Everything is sanctioned by the government.
Except once we had a pirate station "Veronica" based on a ship outside the Dutch terratorial waters broadcasting music, but no talk radio.
Their talk radio is like our NPR, very liberal.
But who knows? It may be possible if there someone with enough passion.
How about Knighthawk? Our Dutch freeper? Can you enlighten us?

Rush really turned me on to the wonders of conservatism and for that I will always be forever grateful.

He's always been there for us and now we need to be there for him.

So to be a conservative is to love Rush huh? Hardy har har.

What do you say to the proposition that anybody willing to repeatedly and almost devotionally say "Ditto", to substitute another's words or thoughts for one's own, is no conservative? Conservatives think for themselves and don't need to be led by the nose.

Rush mobilized millions of "dittoheads", or at least got them to say "ditto!!!". He alienated millions of others who aren't the ditto type.

I've never been able to take more than 5 minutes of his empty pomposity. He's simply not a serious person, though he's in a serious business - politics.

Ditto!!!

Parsing: "You will know that I have continued, and will do what I have to do to earn it, and never take it for granted. "

Will know= will explain in future. "I have continued ....to earn it" Past tense implies he may have been hooked but he isn't now.

You gotta love this stuff. Most of these people in here bashing Rush are just posers. All hey do is B!tch and moan about one thing or another. While never stopping to think where we would be today without him?

I agree.. he's done alot for his beliefs(and alot of right ones in my opinion) but I refuse to support him when he makes a jerk out of himself. People(even good people) have to be called out when their wrong.. He's wrong.. twice in a little over a week.

He's always been there for us and now we need to be there for him.

Rush is strong and can stand for himself by defeating the false alligation that has been made against him. Not only will Rush win the day but will show everyone how insidius the liberal are.

Once Rush has once again discredited the liberal press he will be able to call out all the real drug addicts and junkies on the left and hold them to the same standard as was expected of him.

If Rush were a drug addict he would be a liberal. If Rush were a junkie he would be discredited not by the liberal media but by honest Americans who believe in law and order and conservative family values.

If Rush were doing his job, Arnold would have been laughed out of the party when he ran for Governor.

He is pursuasive but he isn't God. not even God is that persuasive.

We need to be there for this guy. He has paved the way for the free expression of conservative ideas. Please keep Rush in your hearts and prays.

I'm not accusing Rush of anything... but.. he has not denied the allegations against him(because his lawyer said it's best to not comment). That means his lawyer told him(they might have somethign against you Rush so don't go ruining your public credibility by commenting just yet). I don't know what he's guilty of.. but he's done something.

"George Putnam was expressing conservative views twenty years before Rush was on talk radio. Rush didn't do anything but act as a pacifier for the conservative movement to sleep. If Rush were doing his job. . ."

There were plenty of good people expressing conservative ideas. . .for years, if you knew where to find them; hear them. Rush did not put the 'movement to sleep'; he has only challenged the mulitudes to 'wake-up'. And he had the audience to make that a worthy challenge.

But you should know that you have to have first, ears that hear; eyes that see. . .Rush cannot work miracles. . .and his name has four letters; not three; so why expect him to.

What are you doing to wake-up the sleepers?

I respect your opinion but the guy has never been humble.. when under attack use whatever means neccessary to fight the media war. He could of said "thanks for the emails, letters, and call in's with support." End of story.. instead he'll use numbers to "shock and awe" his audience. Sad.. again.. in my opinion.

Like many here, Rush started me on my journey toward political self-discovery. Over the years many of my views have diverged from his, but Rush is the man that started it all.

The modern conservative movement owes more to Rush than anyone else, including Reagan. He has my support.

We need to be there for this guy.

I was, one of those was mine. FWIW, I have stood by Rush from the beginning by refusing to offer any personal theories relevant to the alleged mess he is in. Considering this is a conservative forum, I have been thoroughly disgusted with the comments I have been reading from so-called conservatives, all of whom seem to have the inside scoop. All of whom seem to have the perfect response that Rush should have made to these allegations.

All of whom that do not know what it is like to be the front page headline on every newspaper in this country, to be the major topic of every news broadcast at every hour on every television and radio network across this country.

If my support of Rush turns out to be unwarranted then I will be the first to step forward and admit I was wrong.

As for those know-it-alls, do you think I am out of line or being unrealistic to believe that they would do the same if it turns out they were wrong? Yea, it is unrealistic. Given the nature of the internet, it is too easy to sit back in the anonymity of one's den and insert one's foot in their big mouth without any requirement for apologies...........

If these so-called conservatives want to behave like a bunch of DU piranhas, then they know where their home site is!

I've never been able to take more than 5 minutes of his empty pomposity.

His pomposity is just SATIRE -- he's tweaking the noses of the left when he says things like, "with half my brain tied behind my back.." or "with talent on loan from God".

Re: the drug charges -- Hannity had Ed Asner on today questioning him about a remark he had possibly made along the line of "we got Limbaugh, and we'll get Sean Hannity, too."
