45,000 E-mails and Counting – Thank You

October 6, 2003

2:08 PM ET BEGIN TRANSCRIPT Rush Limbaugh Radio Show

Let me again express a sentiment of pure love and appreciation for all of you. Since last week, when the ESPN brouhaha hit and the drug story hit, the number of e-mails is unbelievable to me. It's approaching the 45,000 mark now. I continue to be overawed by it.

And I just want to take some time here to acknowledge a vast majority of people's support. It is overwhelming. And I want you to know I'm getting it and I receive it. It moves me deeply and greatly. I appreciate it, as I have your support of this program all 15 years, more than I am able to express with words. And I just want you to know that. I never have said it enough, and I want to try to correct that from now on, but I said last Friday that we in this program, we have almost a familial type relationship that has evolved here, and I understand what that entails. And I understand the bond of loyalty that exists and what ties that loyalty together, and one of the things is trust. And I realize that that is shaken in a lot of you, but yet you maintain that you are full-fledged behind me. And I appreciate that, and you will have that support, I hope, validated. You will know that I have continued, and will do what I have to do to earn it, and never take it for granted.

Before we get any further with all this I just want you to know how I appreciate what you're all saying, how much I appreciate all that you've done over all these years and how desperately much I appreciate your expressions of support now. Believe me. I notice it and I'm taking none of it for granted. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

We're pretty brainwashed in this country, too. Thanks for your nice post.

Europe needs their own Rush Limbaugh otherwise it will be lost.

That would be cool. Is there such a thing as talk radio in Europe? Political talk radio? Somehow I could easily imagine there being laws in Europe that would hinder or prohibit such a thing -- a "fairness doctrine" of some sort which would require "equal time" for all viewpoints (as our Democrats would like to have here), or even an outright ban (for the collective good, of course).

although conservatives think that character matters in public life, we have never bought into the idea that moral credibility is predicated on moral perfection.

If moral credibility were predicated on moral perfection, even our church pulpits would be silent. I'm sure liberals would not agree, but in my view, character has as much to do with how we handle our failings as the failings themselves.

Get over yourself Rush.. you need to pass on quietly into retirement.

Ah yes, the one strike and your out rule.

God grant us the understanding to support our friends when they are down.

I agree totally, being a conservative is not never making mistakes its owning up to them when you do. IF (and that's a big IF) Rush has done anything wrong I expect he will admit it and take the consequences like a man.

Unlike liberals who run around scapegoating all their failures onto everyone else.

In order to reach the masses that person would have to be on BBC or CNN and we know that wont happen anytime soon

Freeperdom is not what it used to be. I am shocked daily at some of the hatred and viciousness that I see displayed here.

When I started lurking back when the forum was called The Whitewater Files, the tone was much different...and a lot more pleasant.

I, too, support and still like Rush.

Your useful idiocy puts a smile on every liberal's face.

Only leftists and those consumed by envy will deny Rush's vital role in the conservative movement. You are demoralizers and chumps because these calumnious attacks on Rush are attacks on YOU...that is, of course, if you are a conservative.

Well, you've got to start somewhere. Remember, Rush started small and worked his way up.

Are there any political talkshows on the smaller stations in Europe?

Rush's contribution to the conservative cause is enormous. He is a man of great gifts and great flaws. If he fesses up, takes responsibility and shows true contrition he will be forgiven in time. Right now, though, he just seems to be continuing his giant ego trip and I have lost a lot of respect for him.

If Richard Nixon had come clean when the fit began to hit the shan, he would have beat the Watergate mess.

If Rush come clean on this, he will find his "gravitas" skyrocket.

As Arnold said, "Where there is smoke, there is fire." My gut, and Rush's statements lead to only one conclusion - there IS a fire.

I just hope his attorney's are pressing John Law in Fla to play their cards very soon. When they do, no matter what they are holding, this can be Rush's finest hour.

If he does the right thing.

This, from a not dittohead, yet one who respects achievement and competence.

George Putnam was expressing conservative views twenty years

George was also a laughing stock on second rate TV stations in LA for much of his career.

Before you pound Rush so deeply into the ground you should also consider a few other things that have transpired under Rush's time at the EIB mike:

** Congress changed hands to the Republicans for the first time in forty years.

** The Senate is again in Republican hands, even if nominally so (due to the RINOS).

** For the first time in ages, the incumbant Party will gain seats in the House and most likely in the Senate as well.

** Rush has also attracted a significant number of the youths of today away from the Democrats.

** The once proud Party of the Jackass has been reduced to a shell of it's former self. It does not stand on principle, but relies instead on a coalition of misfits, and those made to feel victimised.

Maybe Rush does not meet your high expectations, I sincerly doubt that anyone does (care to name one who does?), but Rush has made it acceptable to be a Republican (but not here in SF)

A few years back, I started hearing bits and pieces of Rush on Friday afternoons (my half day), with hubby when picking up the kids from school. I'd ask him, "Why do you listen to that guy?". And the husband would say "Because he's right."
And I really went into it with a mindset that he was a far-right wacko just BSing (thank the liberal media for that). But time and again he made his points and backed them up with sound logic and facts.
Now you're talking about someone (me) who at one time was waaay left on alot of issues.
Yes he's a personality and a showman, but he is also a way that the conservative message seeps out, and he's good for reaching folks on the fence.

Before we get any further with all this I just want you to know how I appreciate what you're all saying,

He really couldn't go much further at that point, it was one of the few times I have ever heard emotion getting in the way of him expressing himself, his voice got shakey.

Look at the facts. All there is on Rush is that one notoriously unreliable 'news' source has floated the idea that Rush is a drug addict, a junkie etc.

This story has as much legitimacy as the National Enquire reporting that Duyba met with aliens at Camp David or that Michael Jackson has a fondness for boys. Okay, they get it right once in a while.

But the story about Rush using drugs is completely false. The entire point of the leftist yellow journalism of the Enquirer is to slander Rush by saying that he is on drugs thereby making him a pariah to patriotic Americans a criminal and unfit to help lead the conservative movement.

"I lose more respect for this guy everyday."

Feel sorry for your loss. . .

Who DO you admire these days?

As for the number of e-mails; this is not self-congratulations at all; to Rush's enemies; no number would be impressive.

This was only a polite and grateful acknowledgement of those good wishes and to let the senders know that they are not alone in their support of Rush.

. . .the kind of honest sentiment that Rush's detractors are not at all familiar with.
