'A Silent Prayer' at Rally (Hundreds protest abortions)

Jack Eschmann didn't really have a chance to pray yesterday at the anti-abortion event he helped organize. He was too busy walking up and down the sidewalks lining Route 110 and Jericho Turnpike in Huntington Station, gently encouraging others to do so.

"I have to keep reminding them, this is a silent prayer to overcome the evils of abortion," he said. "If they start to talk, they'll talk about many other things, as people do," said Eschmann, who is a member of the Long Island Coalition for Life, the nonprofit that sponsored the annual event.

Among the hundreds of people the 73-year-old passed were the eight nuns from the Missionary Sisters of Saint Benedict in Huntington who were quietly chanting a prayer in unison. He stepped past Knights of Columbus members and senior citizens holding rosary beads in one hand, an anti-abortion poster in the other. He stopped to caution a group of teenagers from St. Anthony's High School in South Huntington to "stand about an arm's length apart," so the demonstration would stretch as far as possible. And

indeed, it did, all the way from Jericho Turnpike on Route 110 on down to the border of Melville, about seven miles. And, along the way, he stressed for people to stay on the sidewalk.

A few snide bits, but on the whole a surprisingly fair report by the likes of Newsday. Normally they wouldn't report on this kind of event at all.

Of course I posted this because I was suprised to find it in Newsday. I was not, however, suprised by the final paragraph:

"It does [bother me] a little because I think they should keep their opinions to themself," said Lopardo, 46, of Wantagh. "It is freedom of speech but it's always this, them trying to pass on their opinions."

For those Pro-Lifers who haven't yet spent time praying in front of an abortion mill - 'ya gotta' try it.
It is powerfull, and you might find yourself returning week-after-week to pray and to minister to others.
Of course, you get a lot of people giving you the finger, and yelling stuff at you, and it's cold it the winter, but there's nothing better than to see a mommie decide not to kill her baby, and sometimes you get to see someone accept Jesus right there on the sidewalk.......
