White flag vanity: Will/should McClintock be offered a BIG post in Arnold's administration?
claremont salute to mcclintock ^ | Oct 4, 03 | claremont

I say yes. If there's bad blood, it's no more than between Bush Sr. and Reagan after the 1980 primaries. Remember Bush Sr. talked of REagan's "voodoo economics". McClintock has pulled his punches re. Arnold; he didn't fire at him at the debate. McClintock has elevated the issues discussion and kept Arnold from straying too far left.

Besides that, we could USE McClintock's expertise in a high budget and policymaking post.

The only argument I could see on the other side is that McC would be better groomed to take on Boxer in the US Senate race.

No thanks. Social liberalism and fiscal conservatism are mutually exclusive.

Social liberty and fiscal conservatism are mutually compatible.
The concept served our country well till the prohibitionists allied with the democrats at the turn of the 20th century..
It's been downhill since then..

Arnie claims to be for social liberty and fiscal conservatism.. -- And soon will have a chance to prove it..

McClintock's political career as a "conservative" is over.

pretty much sums it up.
there will be no redemptionwithoutrepentance...
and mcclintock types don't repent for their "principled" decisions.

It's more likely he will oppose president Bush in the New Hampshire primaries... backed by the anti "rino" folks... who may threaten to leave the party at that point.

Thank you. Good observations. Tom carries our conservative standard so well, the chisellers feel hugely uncomfortable in his presence. That's because, to begin with, too many of them have sunk so low that they have to look up to see down.

But I surely hope that LOTS of people LIKE McClintock in conviction, but unlike him in temperament and character, are given leading posts.

This is not an issue of sides.

It is very much an issue of "sides". One side's supporters accuse the other's supporters every single day of some new nefarious low such as being a Nazi sympathizer, raping women, being a Communist, etc. And guess what? Its ain't the Schwarzenegger supporters who are calling McClintock a Hitler supporter, rapist, Communist, etc.

I'm just fed up with the crap.

Then stop dishing it out.

I'm tired of the devicsive rhetoric that has been replacing honest exchanges recently on this forum.

Then stop dishing it out.

To a point, I'm tired of the ad hominem replys that are becomming increasingly more frequent. Reply #65 above is an excellent example.

Please point out ANY ad hom content in my Post 65. As you know, "ad hominem" literally means "attack upon the person." Please point out anywhere I attacked you personally in Post 65.

Somewhere in your childish temper tantrum

(yawn)

PKB

you might recall (pun intended) that McClintock's supporters are pulling eighteen percent in the polls.

Come back after October 7, and we'll see if that alleged 18 percent holds up.

Can Arnold win the next general election on forty percent of the vote?

If he doesn't have a little yapping Chihuahua who can never win the dog show attacking him and nipping at his heels, yes.

Then maybe you shouldn't be so quick to kick us out of the Big Tent.

I actually said "a few of his looney tune supporters." But hey, if the shoe fits ...

"Why can't we all just get along, dump arnie and support MY GUY? You won't support my guy? But but... your guy is evil, mine is a saint... just like me..."

This has to be over in some respects on Wednesday morning. right? But, I keep wondering "Who will they target after ARnold gets elected?"

(Yoda voice ON)

"So sure are you? Remember Election 2000 and pregnant chads, you do?"

(Yoda voice OFF)

But, I keep wondering "Who will they target after ARnold gets elected?"

I suspect that Schwarzenegger will continue to be the target, as they play up every snide and insulting comment made by Democrat legislators in the California Assembly during the post-election period. I also see claims of censorship being made concerning the New York Times' retraction of their false Hitler story, more bimbo eruptions, etc.

Apres' election is not going to be pretty in California. The paid shills have to have something to do, and I have the sick feeling that Schwarzenegger in particular and Republicans in general are going to be their favorite whipping boys for quite a while.

You really have drunk the koolaid if you think that 25% of the electorate that typically votes GOP would perpetually assume political powerlessness in order to make a rhetorical point about "true conservatism".

Given the skill sets McC has, it might seem he should be given a spot in the Arnold Administration. Unfortunately, McClintock has proven himself to NOT be a team player.

IF he had withdrawn from the race, he would have been guarenteed a seat at the table. I don't see it happening given the way this has played out.

"It illustrates well why you must fight the impulse to give in to them and their smarmy campaign against you and what you hold dear."

Under No circumstance have I had the impulse to give in to these pretend conservatives and I most certantly am not influenced by the party hacks who continually support liberal/moderate candidates. Drier and his ilk also backed Riordan against Simon and we saw how much influence they had over the voters in the republican primary. As inept as Simple Simon was, he still only lost by less than 5%.

So, according to the great "conservatives" (a/k/a Arnold's supporters, better known as Anti-Bustamonte voters) on this forum, I will continue with my delusion (their words) and vote for McClintock. Oh yes, I am also voting Yes on recalling Davis the corrupt.

Social liberty and fiscal conservatism are mutually compatible.

I agree with that statement, but my sense is that Arnold isn't interested in your (and my) notion of social liberty that means far less government. Instead, he's interested in additional government programs and entitlements, which I call social liberalism.

Too bad you desire to isolate yourself. We could use a mandate when we start to clean up Sacramento. Will you continue to be a negative influence during the housecleaning.
